KarenF Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 Hi, I am awaiting being seen by a doctor in the Philadelphia area for lyme. I have terrible pounding in my body like a strong pulse, insomnia and anxiety. I feel like my body is so revved up but yet I feel like lying down all the time but yet I cant fall asleep because my body feels on overdrive. I am using a natural progesterone cream which seems to help it somewhat but it is torture. My appointment is not til the end of the month and it cant come soon enough. Has anyone had this? I am tkaing 1 mg of Lunesta for sleep but it only keeps me asleep for 5 hours so I sleep from 11pm til 4 am. It is lonely and frightening to be up at that time. I am glad to have this site. Thank you for any feeback you can give me.
NancyD Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 I have had great difficulty sleeping at night in the past several months. I'm fatigued and can't wait to get to bed but then my body feels like it's going to jump right out of my skin. For me, this is tied to either Lyme or Bartonella. I started taking 1.8 mg Melatonin-SR and that really helps. I have been sleeping much better lately. Also, I make sure I don't take ANY B vitamins at night as they can cause sleep problems and nightmares. You could also try taking a long Epsom salts bath before bed so your body is relaxed. And also take some magnesium - this should help to relax your muscles.
KarenF Posted October 3, 2011 Author Report Posted October 3, 2011 Thank you Nancy. I will get some Melatonin Sr. Could you tell me how much Magnesium to take and which form? I'm not sure if it matter but jsut thought I'd check. I didnt realize Bartonella can cause these kinds of symptoms. I look forward to knowing what I have. I jsut know right now that my lyme test by Neuroscience is positive. But I dont know anymore yet.
philamom Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 Karen- you could try Natural Calm by Peter Gillham before bedtime. It's a magnesium supplement (rasberry-lemon powder you mix with h2o). Could you pm me the name of the doctor you are about to see. -thx

Thank you for any feeback you can give me. I have this exact same thing and it's my worst symptom. If you can't sleep, then all of the other symptoms are amplified and your body can't fight the infections. I've tried Lunesta too and it knocks me out for about 4 hour, then I'm wide awake and still tired. Now I'm on mirtazapine plus a bunch of supplements and am doing better. Magnesium is critical for me.

I also have trouble sleeping.
KarenF Posted October 3, 2011 Author Report Posted October 3, 2011 Thank you everyone. Susie, do you know what yours is from? do you know if its your adrenals or a co-infection or what causes it? I will ask the doctor about remeron, what dose did you start on and i will start taking magnesium right away.
Suzan Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 In addition to the magnesium and melatonin, I also take 5-htp. This helps calm me down and I'm sure helps with my overall ability to sleep. This week, I'm having a heck of a time going to sleep. I take benadryl every night for bad allergies and this helps me too but this week, I don't know what is going on! Susan
mama2alex Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 8 years ago I was diagnosed with mercury poisoning - it was off the charts on testing. I had severe insomnia, chronic fatigue, short term memory loss, pain in my hands and feet, and mood issues. My doc didn't yet know about Lyme, so I wasn't tested at the time, and he treated with chelation. The fatigue, moods and insomnia completely resolved. Pain and memory were much better but not resolved. Over the years some symptoms have crept back, and some new ones have cropped up, but the insomnia never returned. I have no idea if this has any relevance to your situation, but it makes me wonder if the metals could be what causes the sleep problems. I've heard that its common for people with Lyme to have high levels of mercury/heavy metals. Maybe because Lyme inhibits detox? Not sure. Anyway, I thought I'd mention it. Hope you find relief soon!
NancyD Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Karen, my DD15 takes Magnesium Glycinate 120 mg bid. Nancy Thank you Nancy.
