Hi to all,

This is my first post. I am A 31,male. and have tourettes.I had been on pimozide (orap) for 15 years & came off it last year as I was starting to experience severe depression, mood swings, suicidal thoughts - this all coincided with a stressful time in my life - moving house, birth of my son etc.I could not believe how much better I felt being off meds............however, this only lasted a month.I now am trying to cope with this disorder without the help of meds & I feel it is a battle that I am losing. The strain being put on my marriage is enourmous & I dread going to work everyday.I saw Fireflys post re Carnosine & have started taking it......I think i may have experienced a slightly calmer mood at times but |I have only been taking it for 3 days & am not sure how soon I should expect to notice a difference, also would I be able to take this with 5 -HTP?

I have ordered the book that is advertised on this site and can only hope that this offers some help.

I would be grateful for any advice anyone can offer & I apologise if this post sounds extremely depressing.

If there is one thing I can offer at this time it is...................STAY AWAY FROM MEDS, DOCTORS ARE FAR TO EAGER TO PRESCRIBE THEM !!!!!!! ( I am having to deal with things now that I should have done 10 years ago).

Bleaschmann,

Hello! You are not alone, and I hope that one day, TS becomes something that even ignorant and narrow minded people understand. Or at least are educated about. In the mean time, I'm sure your family and friends love you no matter what, and that is all that matters.

My son had great results on Carnosine within about 4 days on it. This lasted only a couple of weeks, but he is at the height of it all due to his age. I expect the rollercoaster. I do think it would have continued to help if he were not at such a vulnerable age.

Next week, he begins Habit Reversal Therapy. I have read that it is 90% effective, especially in adults with TS and OCD. I will let you know how it is working. In the mean time, hang in there.

God Bless you and your family! Merry Christmas

Hi bleaschmann

you are so right to be warning folks about what the drugs can do...so sorry you had to experience it first hand. My son was put on haldol and luvox and then zyprexa and the side effects were absolutely horrible!!

After a year of that experience we thankfully found a caring and knowledgable psychiatrist who helped him withdraw (another scary experience) and we then began a natural protocol which had almost immediate and dramatic improvement

I have documented what helped him in this thread

we did not know about carnosine then, but it does appear to be helpful if used correctly.

I personally feel that there is no one "miracle" supplement for TS, but rather that a combination of the right things is what has the best longterm results

This includes cleansing the body of all toxins and parasites etc and following a good diet free of artificial junk, while also trying to avoid environmental triggers.

hope you find the combinations that are most helpful for you.

BTW to help with the anxiety etc I would highly recommend BACH'S REMEDY (made from flower essences)

It is truly remarkable in its calming effect and i know of many people with TS who find that it also helps their tics, while aiding with stress/anxiety etc

it is available from health stores
