Guest pandas16 Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 (edited) Okay, I know no one seems to say anything when I post stuff about RTMS but here's a case study using it for treatment refractory OCD & tics in the SMA. They were stable 3 months later! http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15982444 I really think this is absolutely amazing. If all I had to do was go and get my brain stimulated once every 3 months to decrease/increase excitability in the parts that weren't working right that would be wonderful. GraceUnderPressure Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 No neuro drugs? no antibiotics? no expensive ivig or pex? no worms? Where do I sign up? Thanks for sharing this info! It sounds too good to be true!
Worried_Dad Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 Hah - by coincidence, I heard a segment on NPR not long ago where they discussed RTMS and its use for severe OCD. The lead physician said it wasn't effective for everyone but showed major promise / major quality-of-life improvement for some patients. Sounded extremely intriguing! Here's a link to the NPR story, btw: http://www.npr.org/2011/07/27/138748778/parkinson-s-treatment-could-work-for-ocd-too
MomWithOCDSon Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 Here's the clinical trial information. http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00106249?term=RTMS%2C+OCd&rank=5 I'm using the worms at the moment, but if it doesn't work- I'm going to do that clinical trial. Happy for you to have this as an option, but our kids are not old enough for the trial!
tpotter Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 This is very interesting. Thanks for sharing it.
Iowadawn Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 There was research showing similar results published just earlier this year.
