beeskneesmommy Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 My son was doing pretty well but I started probiotics yesterday and there has been a resurgence of hyperactivity that I have not seen for quite a while. He started having urinary frequency again and I see him bending down to touch the floor ritualistically. He was calm and fine all afternoon and then about 1 hour after the probiotics, the high activity started. I started yesterday on "Yum-Yum dolphilus" which has L. acidophilus, L. plantarum, B. bifidum and B. lactis. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Not sure of acidophilus, but to get rid of yeast you should use a yeast killer like garlic, caprylic acid, diflucan etc. Acidophilus helps restore the beneficial flora. When yeast die, you SHOULD expect a temporary worsening of symptoms due to die off reaction of the yeast toxin. This should not last more than a week.
beeskneesmommy Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 OK, but not quite sure what you are saying. I should keep on with the probiotics and not drop them right away? I dropped them after a few days last time because of these symptoms, but I wasn't sure if the probiotics were the culprit then (still not, as the waters are always muddy with PANDAS and he is on a new-for the last 3 weeks-med protocol with very aggressive abx for a little guy). Can't give him diflucan, I think, he is just 4....
Stephanie2 Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 (edited) I used to give my little ones diflucan starting at the age of 18 months, although you would be hard-pressed to find a GP to prescribe it. We got it from the DAN doctors. In retrospect, though, I don't recommend it cuz it's just going to create room in the gut for more pathogenic things to move in such as clostridia (not a pretty one at all). Also, what you are seeing with the probiotic most likely is a herx or die-off reaction. The urinary frequency might be part of the yeast die-off. Die-off symptoms should last 3-5 days, any longer and you might just be looking at a negative side-effect that is not going to go away (or an increase in pandas symptoms, in general, that may or may not be related to the probiotics). Hope that helps! Edited August 15, 2011 by Stephanie2
