Guest pandas16 Posted August 13, 2011 Report Posted August 13, 2011 Anyone find this despite constant use of abx?
MomWithOCDSon Posted August 13, 2011 Report Posted August 13, 2011 Our DS has no yeast issues, but he has also been on a steady and moderately aggressive probiotic regimen since commencing antibiotics. I also think it's possible that males could be somewhat less susceptible biologically to troublesome yeast issues? Just based solely on my own "feminine experience."
JAG10 Posted August 13, 2011 Report Posted August 13, 2011 So far, no yeast problems. Ironically, when first on this board describing dd's symptoms of silly, goofy, intoxicated behavior, folks would jump all over me about yeast. It wasn't yeast as that behavior has virtually vanished with abx and ivig. She does have histamine issues though. Histamine cascading when running or standing in one spot too long.
Johnsmom Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 How do you tell the difference? I was told my kid had yeast issues before we even started antibiotics. The docs would say his behavior is from yeast but the behaviors look like pandas too.
Mary M Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 No yeast in our family members and both dd and dh have been on abx for over 1 calendar year without the benefit of probiotics. I have probiotics in the fridge but neither opted to take them. Mary from Michigan
sf_mom Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 I have had an ongoing yeast problem of 4+. I find the more aggressive my Dr. is with treatment the worse it gets. Some believe it is a bi-product of die-off " yeast may cannibalize dying Borrelia and that yeast is not always the result of antibiotic therapy alone" http://betterhealthguy.com/joomla/blog/216-ilads-2010-conference-takeaways. My yeast problem seems to be better finally. I no longer have white tongue or itchy soles of my feet. A couple of things that I think have helped is daily Nystatin, hd probiotics, Lauricidin, lowering of antibiotic regimen. I also understand Coconut water can help. For older DS we have used couple of things: hd probiotics all different strains, Ketotifen to help rebuild mucus lining wall so yeast can not easily attach, Epicor which is a prebiotic that ferments good yeast. -Wendy
thereishope Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 No yeast issues...knock on wood. However, maybe it's partly genetic? I've never even had a yeast infection before. Yes, I know...TMI.
Christianmom Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 My son has no yeast problems that I can tell--no symptoms whatsoever, though he has not been tested. He has been on full-dose antibiotics for PANDAS for a year as well as increased antibiotics for lyme treatment--all with no issues. No gut issues of any kind either. He is on a regular diet--nothing special (though we are trying to stay away from artificial colors, preservatives, and msg). In general he has always been a good eater. He's never had a sweet tooth or been a junk-food lover. No liver issues. No sinus issues. No signs of getting sick, even now as I have bronchitis and have heavily exposed him. His overall health is 100% except for some brown spots between his bottom front teeth which appear to be a result of his antibiotics, but we are not sure. We still have to check with our dentist. We are also working with a homeopath who has changed my son's probiotic several times. And he has been on different homeopathic remedies for 5 months.
Chemar Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 Not everyone is susceptible to Candida ("yeast") overgrowth , but do remember that Candida infection can manifest in many different ways in different people! It is frequently a "hidden" infection and some people have been misdx with other illnesses when in fact they have candida...treat the candida and sometimes those other ailments resolve! Also, there are many more factors than just abx use that can result in both internal and external Candida overgrowth The only way to know for sure whether or not you have it is to be tested. There is also the unscientific but amazingly accurate home "spit test" http://www.adhdrelie...andidaTest.html
