eljomom Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 DD7 got a plantars wart in February. It got huge. Finally took to podiatrist 2 weeks ago (was afraid to do anything for fear of worsening pandas). He treated with a topical chemical, and saw two other little ones starting and treated those too. They are all still there, and now there are 8 in all. All on the bottom of the same foot. Any thoughts how in 2 weeks, after treating one big and two little, why there would now be 8 or 9? Anything to do with long term low dose zith doing something to her immune system?

I had one for years that never really bothered me nor would it go away no matter what I treated it with. A couple of years ago I started putting Dr. Scholl's (actually Equate generic brand) on the foot every day. If wearing white sweat socks, I just dropped some into the sock before putting it on. Within two months, the wart was gone. After everything I tried, the solution turned out to be pretty easy. bill
JAG10 Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 I really find the viruses to be very scary as they can last years. We've been battling molluscum in my dd7 since August. Went to dermatologist who wouldn't treat the ones between her bum cheeks. I finally bought this Zymaderm and was vigilant with it. They were all gone, flat, but skin still discolored from where they were after 4 weeks of treating them starting in the beginning of May. Then, 3 days ago, after days of unbearable heat here in the Northeast, she has some kind of bumps ALL OVER the backs of both thighs. Idk if it is molluscum, but if it is, I'm so discouraged.
Momto2 Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 Both of my kids have had plantars warts and I do think it is a virus. This may sound odd, but we got rid of them by using duct tape! Our pediatrician actually told us to do it. Either soak the foot or after a shower/bath, take a pumice stone and try to file them down a bit. Then make sure the foot is dry and cover the area tightly with the duct tape and leave on until the next night. Do this every night and you will start to see a difference. It does take a while (maybe a month or two), but the warts will go away. I hope this helps! Amy
nicklemama Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 Jag10- I really hope its not the molluscum again. Just wanted to let you know my friend's son had terrible molluscum. After a yr, w/ no end in sight, her ped sent her to a dermatologist who put a blistering agent on some of them. There were so many, on the trunk of his body that the derm would only do so many at once. My friend read about Zymaderm and started using it. It got rid of all the molluscum. Its been a year or so and no return of molluscum.
JAG10 Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 (edited) It's very interesting....she got them on a cruise ship last Aug. But first she had this rash on the top of her thighs. I freaked and thought it was that scarlatina rash so many here have posted about. The thigh rash went away and the molluscum appearred. Looking at it today, it's the same darn rash only this time it's on the back of her thighs, not the front. I'm not a big coincidence gal. I tried searching rashes with molluscum and I found one doc who said kids can get a day fever and brief eczema rash as the virus dies and then it's over. So, I'm hoping that is what is going on. It definitely looks different from the molluscum bumps, they are more blister or mini-wart like. I would do the Zymaderm again, but if any open up, you have to get the white core out- that's where the virus lives. Edited June 12, 2011 by JAG10
JAG10 Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 Btw, both of my girls had the Plantar warts when my older was in 3rd and younger in K. It took 18 months for them to go away, but the girls hardly complained about them. This was before I knew about pandas and the whole immune dysfunction thing. Idk, I think our kids pick up more of this virus stuff than others or it last longer. I never had any warts or rashes or molluscum.
mommakath Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 Interestingly enough, my ds10 had warts in various places....around 21 in all....totally gone 2 weeks after starting lyme treatment. And, dd12 had a rash of plantars warts come out on her feet while on lyme treatment. Took 4 months and bi-weekly trips to podiatrist to get rid of them. THey kept spreading until we replaced all of her shoes.
bws Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 YES! Duct tape really works!!!!!! However, what I did is keep it on all the time, and change it when it gets wet. When it starts getting so itchy that you can't bear it, you can take it off. The warts will disappear within a week or so.
momaine Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Interestingly, my PANDAS/LYME/BARTONELLA diagnosed dd also struggled with plantar warts for several years around the time of her initial infection with these diseases. Nothing we tried helped but eventually they went away on their own. Last time I looked she had what appeared to be regular warts on her legs. I'd guess its because of immune disfunction that she can't seem to get rid of them. Hmmm....
