Wilma Jenks Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 If your PANDAS child had to be hospiatlizes, what hospital would you pick? Also...are there any psychiatrists that deal with PANDAS in Northern NJ?
dcmom Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 I would NOT go to Morristown Memorial, Overlook Hospital in Summit, or Robert Woods Johnson- I KNOW that they do not believe/treat in pandas. Ugh. I would look into Newark Beth Israel, maybe Columbia in NYC. That is rough. If possible, is there an advocate or attorney to consult, to make sure you can take her out or stay with her if you want.,,, The other thought- go to one of these hospitals on the basis that you are afraid she might be having seizures. Maybe they will admit her for a 2 day veeg, under neurologist care?
KaraM Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 What about Yale where Leckman is???? I don't have any experience....just picking up on someone else's mentioning hi sname earlier.... PhillyPA Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 (edited) Wilma - I think that if you are at the point of hospitalizing your child I would stop the steroids. I would rather end the experiment than put my child in the hospital. At the very least give her a fraction of the steroid that she is getting. If you take her to the hospital more than likely, they are just going to take her off the steroid anyway. Remember - if you are at the point of hospitalizing your child, I would discontinue the steroid use. If you do go to the hospital - my vote would be Columbia. Edited May 16, 2011 by PhillyPA
kimballot Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 If your PANDAS child had to be hospiatlizes, what hospital would you pick? Also...are there any psychiatrists that deal with PANDAS in Northern NJ? Wilma, you might want to call your insurance company and talk with them before you pick a hospital. You want to find a hospital that participates with your insurance. Also - make a list of your goals before you admit her to the hospital. What are you looking for the hospital to do. For example, do you want the hospital to: - Keep your daughter safe while she is on this course of steroids? (if this is what you are asking for, you probably do not need a hospital with expertise in PANDAS, just one that is open to the possibility) - Evaluate your daughter and try to find the underlying cause of her disorder (If this is the case, you are probably best served by a hospital with either Dr. Leckman on staff - in Connecticut - or Dr. Murphy on Staff - in Florida). - Test your daughter for infections including sinusitis, strep, mycoplasma, and lyme - (if this is the case then you want to look for a hospital that is part of a medical facility - not just a stand alone psychiatric hospital). Please call your PANDAS doctor so he/she can talk with the psychiatrist at the hospital. Wishing you all the best -
