NET (Neuro Emotional Techniques)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am new to the forum and have an 11 year old son with Tourette's. He has been having a horrible flare up this past month, shaking his head back and forth uncontrobally. He has been getting horrible headaches from this motion. His neurologist wants to put him on Haldol but I am petrified of the drug. He can't continue like this since he is frustrated and in pain. I did some research and found a website that uses NET as a technique to ease tics. I'd like to know if anyone has heard of this and used it. Thanks. potlib

Hi

sorry to hear of the flare up.

I dont know anything about the technique you mention...hopefully someone else does, however I would be VERY cautious about something that tries to control tics via "emotional" or "habit reversal" etc techniques.......tourette tics are PHYSIOLOGICAL not psychological.

There is a lot of very valuable info here at ACN to help you find other natural ways to help to reduce TS tics.

You are very right to want to stay away from HALDOL.....it is a drug with the potential for very dangerous side effects!! I speak from personal experience because of what it did to my son.

If medicine has to be the route, there are milder yet still effective drugs available with less horrible and irreversible side effects than Haldol!!!!

Hopefully, you will find other solutions than any meds tho, as all the meds do carry side effect risk, especially in children. Whatever you choose tho, do so under qualified physician guidance.

I cant post too long now, but do spend some time reading around the forum here and also on the main page for Tourette Syndrome ........ so much you can do without resorting to meds!

Also, do consider taking your child to a NUCCA chiropracter to help with the headaches caused by the tics...... (more info at www.nucca.org )

I will check in again when our severe weather is over

bye now

potlib, I do not know a thing about your child but before I would let a doctor medicate my kid I would make a check list of what might be setting off the tics. We found in the past that summer time was the worse time of the year for tics and we did a check list with the encouragement of others here on the watching TV, playing video games, computer, swimming in pools. We found that if we cut out the screen time, eliminate the pool time the worse of the tics subsided over a period of two weeks. Now as for my family, we do not think that what I mentioned above caused the tics but was rather a trigger for the tics. We had our son tested for toxic metal poisoning and yes he turned out to have high levels of lead, mercury and other things in his body. We are currently detoxing with DMPS and DMSA and we have found that we can now take our son to a crowed movie theater, that he can now watch tapes on the TV and can go swimming three times a week with an hour epsolm salt bath afterwards. The progress my son has made could not even be promised to me by the doctors who wanted to prescribed and why prescribed a heavy medication when the body may need to be cleanse of heavy metals and or need to be fed with supplements that it is missing. Chemar is an expert with supplements and natural detoxing. Look up and read some of her old posts when you have a chance. I know I spent alot of sleepless nights reading the past posts of Claire, Chemar, Heather, etc.....and then comparing it with what I knew and then went to research it all using the search engine of the web. Also read Kims posts on biochat. There is a ton of information there once you know what the doctors are talking about.
