lkaanda Posted May 8, 2011 Report Posted May 8, 2011 We just started giving my dd9 Kids Calm. She weighs about 50lbs. According to the package she is in the 9-13 range which provides 240mg. of magnesium. I have noticed some posts which seem to give more magnesium. I have not heard back from the doctor to get his opinion. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this amount, I feel like maybe it is not enough? We are desperate to find something to help with her tics. So far, the steroid burst and 3 different antibiotics have not helped. Thanks for your help.
SSS Posted May 8, 2011 Report Posted May 8, 2011 Hi, Kids Calm is magnesium citrate. You know you've given too much if the bowel movements become loose/watery. My dd6 had constipation issues as well as I wanted to calm her down- I started to use kids calm (a lot, can't remember how much) pre-mixed in a drink, which I handed to her as soon as I picked her up from school, as this was the 'worst' time, she'd break down after keeping it together at school. After a few days however, she caught on to me, and refused the drink. I have just recently started giving magnesium citrate capsules (she swallows pills now) 2 or 3 a day, 150 mg each. Our bowel problem is solved with this- I am so happy- I also use magnesium sulfate cream (an epsom salt cream) and rub it into her feet or back with things get crazy...I do find it helps.
Chemar Posted May 8, 2011 Report Posted May 8, 2011 just wanted to add something here to avoid confusion the Kids Calm magnesium citrate blend has been discontinued and so the current Kids Calm is a MULTIVITAMIN. To get just the mag citrate one now needs to buy the Natural Calm I know some people still have the original Kids Calm mag citrate, and some stores still have it in supply. But the company (Peter Gillham's Natural Vitality) is no longer making it. I mention this as we have had a number of people purchasing the new Kids Calm multi, thinking that is what is being referred to on the forums, when in fact it is the Natural Calm that they should be purchasing for the ionic magnesium (unless of course they are seeking a multi)

lkaanda Posted May 8, 2011 Author Report Posted May 8, 2011 Thank you for the information. I think we will try upping her dosage a little as long as she can tolerate it. I am hopeful this will give her even a little relief. Thanks!
