Iowadawn Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 OK--My court system topic has recently added a bit of Grapefruit Seed Extract chatter. I thought I would just start a new topic. Our lyme doc added this as a method to bust up biofilms & go after bartonella. We got rashes on his back, ramped up behavior, tics, OCD-ish. He has been off it twice when in the hospital and these sx's have abated. He ramped back up the last time he went back on it. Getting the picture, now. Curious on others' experiences with it. Dawn
mama2alex Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 My DAN doc gave me this years ago when I was going through treatment for mercury poisoning. It made me itch all over, so I stopped taking it within a few days. I thought at the time it was an allergic reaction, but now I wonder. I just did 3 weeks of doxy to see if we can provoke an immune response for a Western Blot. About 1 1/2 weeks into it, I started itching all over. Very interesting...
lismom Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 We use it every day now. Started it off and on the last couple months.I'm using it for yeast but read that it can possibly cyst bust. I didn't find anywhere that it could be used for biofilms. I was hoping this was the case but couldn't locate any info on it. Can you provide more info on that? I have worked up to 500mgs split very slowly. Definately saw symptoms flair some, tics and joint pain but I kept going thinking I would give it a try for a little. I heard such good things for yeast. I am sticking with it. I knew that things would flair if it is killing yeast.
JuliaFaith Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 DS13 used it for about a month and had to stop for T&A but he had flair-ups quite a bit (5 day flare...2 days ok...4 day flare...1 day ok...3 day flare...2 day ok...). Now we just started him on it again (along with Quintessence/viressence) and he is flaring again on day 2 of taking it. Did find an interesting article on this but it is quite lenghthy and has doctors names in it so will PM to anyone who wants to take a look just let me know. It sounds like there are many good properties in the GSE (anti-bacterial, anti-viral...).
MichaelTampa Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Hopefully those are herxes that ya'all are describing. I have used it for a couple months now, heard of it for babesia and cysts, hadn't heard of it for biofilms either. Only thing I noticed was in beginning gave me what I call the breath of death, probably from die-off causing lots of fungal growth.
SSS Posted May 8, 2011 Report Posted May 8, 2011 Do you guys give your GSE at the same time as an antibiotic? I am using GSE caps to try and control yeast right now, and while I know antifungals can be given at the same time as antibx., just curious on your timing. Thank you--

Thank you-- There is really no true info on this but for that reason I am giving it apart from abx.

Thank you-- DS dr. has him taking it right before meals which is when he takes abx. She does not usually address timing for any supplements except for this 'cocktail'. I usually research that when we get home from visit with new protocol.
MichaelTampa Posted May 8, 2011 Report Posted May 8, 2011 At the lyme seminar Dr. K. had this weekend, he did present GSE as being active against biofilm. He didn't discuss that point, just said it. But, as I think about it, it sure is caustic, so it kind of makes sense.
Bill Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Before everyone runs out and buys grapefruit seed extract, should probably at least read the following links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grapefruit_seed_extract http://www.terressentials.com/truthaboutgse.html http://chemicaloftheday.squarespace.com/most-controversial/2010/1/27/the-truth-about-grapefruit-seed-extract.html I have no association with any of the sites linked. I did a quick search on this when the topic came up and easily found lots of articles like these mixed in with all the sites trying to sell GSE. Please note that the articles are not saying it does not work, I just want to point out that it may not work for the 'natural' reasons folks assume. bill

And i understand there is always diff views, but all I can tell you is that it makes a difference with my sons tics, it improves them, and that is a symptom that I can see.
