eljomom Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 philamom--who is your llmd? also, are you seeing improvement with lyme treatment?
sf_mom Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 A negative epitope confirmation test does not mean you don't have Lyme. There is more than one child on the forum who has had negative epitope 31 results and when further testing was done... co-infections were found, etc and these children have been responsive to treatment. -Wendy
eljomom Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Yes, SF Mom...hope I didn't give the wrong impression....just know that 31+ doesn't necessarily mean 31+ for LYME...maybe the child still has Lyme, but "band 31" is cross-reactive to something else other than Lyme if the epitope is negative...at least I hope I'm understanding Dr. H at Igenex...
sf_mom Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 True, Band 31 could be cross reacting but there are so many other tests to help support a diagnoses of Lyme: Urine PCR, Urine Dot Blot, CD57, Binding Immune Complexes, Co-infections via specialty labs, etc, etc, etc -Wendy
MichaelTampa Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Band 39 is the most specific for lyme. Most lyme docs consider the IND's to be positive. I think with 39 very specific to lyme along with 31 both IND, and 41 positive IGG and IGM, most LLMD's would consider this very indicative of lyme if the patient has significant symptoms that could be attributed to lyme (such as PANDAS symptoms).
