pixiesmommy Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Is it powder or capsules? Because you can buy gelcaps and make your own capsules, or pay a compounding pharmacy to encapsulate it for you. If it's liquid, I don't have advice. We have a hard time getting liquids in here- even for myself- with the kids it is just impossible.

We have a hard time getting liquids in here- even for myself- with the kids it is just impossible. So far the only thing I've been wary of taking is the Spirulina, which is not encased at all & will stain EVERYTHING that it touches green. I've tried to make myself take it & just can't do it once I smell it as it gets close to my mouth. Has anyone tried making capsules for supplements like these? I saw the little capsule-it-yourself deal when buying all of the herx supplement stuff but didn't get it. _________________________________________________________________________ If you're seeing an LLMD who offers it, buy any supplements/homeopathic stuff from him. If not, try to find it at a store or something. I bought all of mine at my appointment just to nip it in the bud but was happy when I couldn't find it any cheaper online afterwards. The few that I did find that were cheaper than what I paid, although not by more than a few bucks, killed you on shipping. I paid about $30 per bottle of Samento at the office & the cheapest online was $29.99... with $16.95 shipping. Also, we're waiting to see if insurance is gonna throw a hissy fit or not, but my Dad & stepmom (wheatgrass shots, their own compost in the backyard, just cool hippie kinda people. ) know quite a few people who have saved unbelievable amounts of money buying antibiotics from Canada. I've also heard of people buying from India, but the websites I've found for Canada look a lot more legitimate & I've just never heard anyone say a bad thing about them. I'm brand spanking new to this so I'm asking myself the same questions about saving money, but those are the two suggestions I have to offer! If you get any good advice feel free to pass it on, haha.
NancyD Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 (edited) Emerson, I used to buy spirulina in capsule form online from a company in CA. Now that you remind me, I think I'm going to start ordering it again. It did wonders for my energy!! If you need to know the company I can look it up or email my brother. He swears by it!! And I remember him saying that you have to be careful where you buy it from. Nancy Edited March 5, 2011 by NancyD
MichaelTampa Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 I use the Nutrex brand of spirulina and find it excellent. Available at vitacost.com and/or iherb.com. I'm so happy I can take it again, for about a year my body was seriously rejecting/reacting to anything with beta carotene or vitamin A in it, and just a month ago my body decided it was over that. The Nutrex brand doesn't come in capsules, unfortunately. It comes in tablets or powder. The tablets are terrible, as it just clumps all over your teeth and takes forever to clean up your mouth. I stir the powder into water, and let the fork soak in with the water/spirulina for 2-3 minutes before stirring again. Doing it this way, I can get most of it off the glass. It's very clumpy stuff! But I barely taste it at all, too bad the taste is bad for you. Maybe capsules for you. I have made capsules of many different things, usually dried powdered herbs--red root, suma, sarsaparilla. Takes about 10 minutes to make 50 capsules. Where I live, the health food stores sell these capsule maker things, about $10, and also empty capsules to fill--gelatin or vegetarian. I think you could make capsules easily enough with the spirulina if you want to go that way about it. During the process, whatever you're filling the capsules with does inevitably get on the outer shell of the capsule, and you can get it mostly off with your hands, but some will still be there, so it might not be completely tasteless.
pixiesmommy Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 I love spirulina in kombucha or in orange juice. It's also good mixed in with peanut butter balls. I thought it was nasty the first time I tried it and then I started CRAVING it. Same with kombucha for me.
