Malke Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Hi, My daughter (5 1/2) has been complaining of being dizzy, mostly at bedtime. But this morning she was dizzy again and kept bumping into things and saying she was tired. She had a great night's sleep. I've noticed some extra bruises on her too. She's on Day 13 of Zith and ibuprophen. No real tummy issues to speak of. BMs normal. Just wanted to see if dizziness is part of the deal or if I should be taking a closer look. She was extra clingy this morning too. I hate sending her to school on days like this, but I knew it was the Valentines' party and she might get really disappointed to miss it. Her Kindergarten teachers are very patient, but they don't understand the PANDAS (despite a letter from me about it) and, while patient, attribute everything to 'normal' kid emotions, if that makes sense. Isobel will come home and report "The teachers don't help. You make everything better." Sweet, but heartbreaking, because I know she means that I"m her comfort zone, especially on hard days. It's days like this I wish we homeschooled. I'm self-employed and don't have a regular schedule, so I do have some flexibility. But there's important work coming up over the next week so if she's having a bad day I won't be able to keep her home. Before the PANDAS came along, she had SPD-related seperation anxiety, among other things, so I am used to feeling horrible after dropping her off from school. The SPD seemed way more under my control than the PANDAS. I hate feeling out of control about things like this. What do you do about school on hard days? Anyhow, thanks for any thoughts. Malke
emmalily Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Is it a listed side effect of the Zith? About twenty days into my first prescription of agumentin I missed one dose and then when I started it again I had the most unbelievable dizziness/vertigo for several days (felt like I was walking on a boat all the time, no sea legs haha). So if it is because of the antibiotics, it can come later than the first day you start.
Dedee Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 My daughter complains that she is dizzy and wobbly. She says her arms and legs are heavy. Just recently she complains that her chest hurts and she can't breath good. All those type things are very frustrating because it's hard to know if they just don't want to go to school or are really feeling bad. We take it day by day. I have had to take her to school kicking and screaming on some days. Today however, I let her stay with her Granny because she has complained since last night of dizziness, chest pain and hard to breath. I will take her to the doctor this afternoon. It is so hard to know what is PANDAS related and what isn't. Also, maybe it is just anxiety? I feel your frustration. I keep telling myself there isn't a rule book for this illness. I just go day to day doing the best I can based on my gut feeling. Most likely, she misses more school than she should, but she is a bright girl and we make sure she does all her work at home. I try not to worry about what the teachers think, most are supportive, others usually pretend to be. As long as she isn't a problem in the class room or dropping her grades it's not usually a problem. Of course, she is only in first grade, but I have been through this with my son and I just made sure I had a doctor's note explaining his condition. He is in high school now and a straight A student, so it didn't hurt him too much when he missed some in his early years. So, just do what you think is right as a mother. You know what is best for your child. Good luck and let me know if you figure out the dizziness thing. Dedee
SSS Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Hi Malke, ((sorry)) I haven't had the dizzy spells with my dd5, but I do need to make sure she gets protein often-it seems she likes to eat every 2-3 hours, as well- maybe blood sugar related? We also don't have a problem, per say, with going to school (keep in mind only in 1/2 day K, and we lucked out on awesome teacher this year) BUT, we deal with a lot of anxiety- often manifests in being unable to get the 'right' clothes to wear for school (OCD) I find myself having done quite a bit of 'talk therapy' reassurance, positive: 'Mrs. L (K teacher) loves you.' I re-assure her how well liked she is by the kids, etc. I've had some less than finer moments: Yes, one time I actually brought up truant officers for kids who don't go to school. I feel awful typing that- but I don't want to get dd5 in the habit she can choose to go to school or not--- she actually really loves school, and the social interaction is HUGE to her well being. If she was very impaired, of course, I wouldn't force it... I've also had to let go a lot- if she can't handle her hair brushed, okay, I let it go- what she wears, I just aim for clean. Don't know if any of this helped--sending PV's.. Sarah

Malke Posted February 14, 2011 Author Report Posted February 14, 2011 Thanks everyone. I think I still have PSTD about the seperation issues. DD nursed until 2.9 yrs old, and was carried everywhere for her first couple years (sensory/regulation issues) and was never happy when others cared for her. We have also had traumatic partings at school for years. It eased up a little in K this year, but then the PANDAS changed everything back. It just spikes my mommy-anxiety for some reason. The dizziness I'm still not so sure. It's very mild, and comes when she's tired (like at bedtime or this morning). I've read the zith info and the Ibuprophen info, and nothing seems to match in the warnings sections. Her blood sugar has been stabilized for months, thanks to our diet and yeast protocol. AT least I don't have to deal with that in the mix of things. Thanks again. I guess i was just having a hard day. I appreciate the ideas and support. Malke
Ozimum Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Just a thought...recently my ds 17 was complaining he felt dizzy, particularly when getting up from a chair. We checked it out with our Biomed doc who suggested he increase his magnesium. DS then confessed he'd been missing his magnesium lately and the doc said that would do it! Problem solved. (I love our Biomed doc...ds listens to him!) Otherwise...any possibility of a middle ear infection? I had one years ago where the horizon line appeared to swing wildly at about 45 degrees for two weeks! Felt like I was walking the deck of a ship in stormy seas! Edited February 15, 2011 by Ozimum
