If anyone could provide some insight with these results, I'd really appreciate it!

Lyme IgM WB (positive by Igenex; negative by CDC criteria) He was positive with 18 & 31 kDa bands and Indetermined on 41.

He is negative on IgG WB. Does he have Lyme? Doesn't seem like he has many positive bands? What do those bands mean?

Thanks to anyone who can clarify for me.

Both bands 18 and 31 are lyme significant bands. If it were me I would find a good LLMD for treatment. Most of the pandas docs that I know of do not fully understand how to treat lyme. Some have been very helpful with testing but its so important to get the right combo of antibiotics and cyst busting drugs.

It can be very bumpy especially in the beginning treatment but it gets better.

Ditto 100% I just looked my 2 sleeping PANDAS/Lyme kiddos and thought, "Gosh life is so much better after discovering chronic infections (Lyme), switching to an LLMD and not only beating the PANDAS path." Not that I don't expect the ups and downs especially as we are approaching cystbutster mode but a good LLMD completely changed our lives for the better.:) Good luck!

Darlene,

I copied this from SF Mom's post to me 2 months ago. Many LLMDs feel the 31 band if positive indicates a lyme infection that has been present for a while...over a year I am told.

There is the post:

This is what Dr. Ann Corson Pediatric Lyme Specialist says about WB results.

"A positive Western Blot need only show one species-specific band to demonstrate exposure to Bb therefore confriming a clinical diagnosis of Lyme Disease.

These species-specific bands are: 18, 23-25, 31, 34, 39, 83-93"

Western Blot Bands description:

9 cross-reactive for Borrellia

12 specific for Bb

18 unknown

20 cross-reactive for Borrellia

21 unknown

22 specific for Bb, probably really the 23/25 band

23-25 outer surface protein C (OspC), specific for Bb

28 unknown

30 unknown; probably an outer surface protein; common in European and

one California strain

31 outer surface protein A (OspA), specific for Bb

34 outer surface protein B (OspB); specific for Bb

35 specific for Bb

37 specific for Bb

38 cross-reactive for Bb

39 is a major protein of Bb flagellin; specific for Bb

41 flagellin protein of all spirochetes; this is usually the first to appear after a Bb infection and is specific for all Borrellia

45 cross-reactive for all Borellia (sometimes people with Lyme who have

this band positive also have the co-infection Ehrlichiosis)

50 cross-reactive for all Borrellia

55 cross-reactive for all Borrellia

57 cross-reactive for all Borrellia

58 unknown but may be a heat-shock Bb protein

60 cross reactive for all Borrellia

66 cross-reactive for all Borrelia, common in all bacteria

83 specific antigen for the Lyme bacterium, probably a cytoplasmic membrane

93 unknown, probably the same protein in band 83, just migrates differently in some patients

Thanks everyone for responding. We're going on our 4 month since diagnosis. 4th week diagnosis of Lyme. Can't believe it! The past week has been really rough and he's going through so much.

I've never had to deal with something where it was so cyclical. It has been such a roller coaster. Just when things start looking up, something new starts. I'm home with him all day (and very fortunate that way) but watching him constantly for any changes, signs, clues that something is either getting better or getting worse can be exhausting....as I'm sure you can all relate to. We're seeing a ped. LLMD doc tomorrow and hopefully she can give me some words of encouragement (although most of the encouragement has been coming from you ladies...and for that I really, really thank you ;) )

We have all been there.... watching day to day and even after 18 months (one year PANDAS, six month Lyme treatment for our older son) its still exhausting and we still have ups and downs although minimal. I am 'just now' realizing I need to heal emotionally. Our older son is definitely on a path of full recovery, happy and functioning with minimal symptoms. Our twins are also on a similar path.

If I could hand you anything this morning it would be the confidence that he will get better and in the mist of roller coaster..... It is vitally important due to herxing response to look at the range of improvement over months not days and to have a good problem solver 'LLMD' on your side to hold your hand through the day/weekly blips of symptoms.
