susie Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) So I started doxycylcline yesterday morning for suspected Lyme, with plans to do a Western Blot through Igenex after a few weeks on the doxy. This morning in the shower, for about 20 seconds or so I was seeing wiggly spirochete shaped floaters in my eyes. They weren't dark in color, but were lit up as if they were lights themselves. If I closed my eyes, they went away. After about 20 or 30 seconds it stopped. I know the lyme spirochete is much too small to see, so I'm really having a hard time figuring this out. And no, I don't have a history of any sort of hallucinations. The only other symptom I've had since starting the doxy is a mild headache and a real lack of patience. I'm usually a calm and collected driver, but this morning I felt like ramming the car in front of me who was going too slow (didn't do it of course). Anyone else have these or any other type of wierd floater? I'm calling the doctor on Monday unless it happens again, then I'll page him tomorrow. Edited January 23, 2011 by susie
Iowadawn Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) SOunds very similar to a premature vitreous detachment I had in one eye about 5 years ago. The spirochete-looking floaters appeared in an arc. It was weird. Had an ophthalmologist examine me and render that dx. It was explained that as we age the vitreous naturally shrinks, but the space created is filled in with fluid. With a VD the process happens quickly. I still have floaters of one kind or another in this eye today. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get this checked out to make sure something serious isn't occurring. Dawn I re-read your post--I have also had what is called ophthalmic migraines (optic migraine). This arc of "whatever" would start in the mid section of my vision and then gradually move outward. They can make seeing very difficult and frustrating & scary. In fact I had one about a month ago--it had been 10 years since my first one. It set me into a mini panic attack until I got my bearings. They usually dissipate within 15-30 min. Google either of these conditions, but might be worth a dr. visit. Edited January 23, 2011 by Iowadawn
NancyD Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I would have your opthamologist or retina specialist check it out right away. I've had two detached retinas and lots of tears, thinning, and holes in both eyes. I ignored the floaters and as a result lost a lot of depth and peripheral vision. I never had the pain that is often associated with detached retinas so i didn't know. And consequently also got early cateracts. Floaters are nothing to mess around with! Nancy
Suzan Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I agree about getting your eyes checked but with checking with your LLMD too. Our experience with weird eye things: dd9 would say she saw bright dots when her eyes ere open that would cover her vision. We never found anything wrong (except PANDAS and now Lyme). I would get ocular migraines only while pregnant (although I did get one mini episode last year). The bright lights would start on the left side and overtake my vision in both eyes until I could not see at all. It would last exactly 20 minutes every time. I had all sorts of tests but they never found anything wrong. These don't sound exactly like what you are talking about but I do wonder if it can be a herx or symptom of lyme. Susan

OMG..this happened to me about 3 weeks ago in the shower!!!! It was like wiggly fire works..but not bursting outward..more coming down inward. I wonder/ed if it was the HOT water...or hot water effecting some parasite in me! i do get migraines...i have also have blindness migrainse..where you loose part of vision but returns in about an hour... ie you are looking at something...it seems weird..can't put your finger on it..and you realize you can't see half a persons face or something to the side of what you are focusing on...it's not black or blocked out..its just not there... it happened with first pregnacy and a a couple times with each other preganancy...and maybe like 4 other times...but there is no pain for me with those type migraines...i get the painful type about 4-6 times a year since my ...ug um 20"s The, lets call them, spermy thing a couuple weeks ago made me ponder lymes too... i almost want to say i have seen them before..like one or 2...but this time was like a fire work... let me know what you find... i guess i need an eye exam anyway!!
Iowadawn Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I would agree about an ophthalmologist appt. Sudden floating stuff in the eye isn't to be taken lightly. I know they got me in lickety split when I called and explained my symptoms.
