Guest Jean
Hi All, Can any one please let me know the difference between actyle L-carnitine and L-carnitine? Will actyle L-carnitine increase tics? Thanks in advance! Jean
Guest Jean
Sorry for the miss-spelling: it should be: acetyl l-carnitine. Jean
Chemar
Hi Jean the acetyl form means the carnitine has been reacted with actetic acid. I am not very up on biochemistry so someone with more knowledge there can explain in more detail. However, i have always been advised that ACETYL L- CARNITINE is the preferred form for tic reduction HTH
Guest Jean
Hi Chemar, Thanks for the response! I started supplementing ACETYL L- CARNITINE to my son 4 days ago due to his carnitine deficiency. His tic got increased the same day until now. I have found out there're two forms of carnitine: with/without acetyl. Hence the question came out. Maybe I should wait for another couple days to see if there is any change. RTO1214
Jean. Chemar, Check out the post on Braintalk about L-Carnitne and Actyle Carnitine. FJ posted a few months back that she noticed an incrase in tics in her son when she switched from L-Carnitine to Actyle. I had been supplementing with L-Carnitine for eye and mouth tics and I read on the Braintalk forum that I should use the Actyle form. I also noticed an increase in tics when I switched. After going back on the L- Carnitine the eye blinking decreased again. The post on Braintalk if entitled "FJ L-Carnitine or Acetyl or the Juvenon Product " its is dated 11-21-04. Chemar
thanks for that info Robin maybe if there is Pyroluria then the acetyl form is not good??? dont forget we were supplementing for tourette tics and so the metabolic issues may well be different in other tic disorders
Andy
ACETYL L- CARNITINE is my doctor's prescribed carnitine. However, I agree that one should watch carefully on how they or their child reacts for example what is best for 9 out of 10 will not be the substance to use for that 1 out of 10 person.
