Wilma Jenks Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 my child bounces off the wall with whatever we try. from psych. drugs to any supplements. can anyone relate to this?
Phasmid Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Wilma, I have been reading your posts and wish I could help more. I am not sure I understand your child's situation just yet. I can tell you that severe hyperactivity is very much part of the PANDAS complex of symptoms. I have video of my son's first severe episode that shows him literally unable to stand still. He ran from room to room and COULD NOT walk anywhere we went. It was completely exhausting for us, and other family members to be around him. That hyperactivity went away with resolution of his PANDAS ocd and tics. It took us from April until about September to see all of it resolved. But it was steady improvement the whole time. I am not sure but am worried about what might be going on with all that I see your child taking. With the serious psych meds your child is on, I hope that adding all the other meds is not interfering. I hope that you can find a local PANDAS specialist to help you. I think with as serious as your situation is, a remote physician is of little help. Are you able to get an appointment with someone in person? That doc needs to carefully monitor all the psych meds. I will go back and read your posts to gather what you have stated to this point about treatment so far.
swim Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 We've been dealing with PANDAS symptoms for about 8 years now and still struggle to identify the trigger for hyperactivity. In some way, we do feel it is related to food sensitivities. When we sense that our son is edgy, we do gluten and dairy free for a period of time to let his body settle down. Then we add things back slowly just for a feeling of normalcy. Over the holidays, I would say chocolate also increased hyperactivity like we have never seen it do before. You may want to consider food sensitivities as many people on this site have done.

Wilma Jenks Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 Thanks. I agree with what you have told. Some foods for sure trigger the hyperness. I am working with a specialist who is probably going to take her off seroquel. He thinks the lamictal is good for the spikes on her EEG. His name is Scott Smith, and I feel really good about him being on board to help us. People have mentioned some other specialists, that I may look into at some point too. thanks so much. I think I see a little improvement with her. She seems to coming out of her little world a bit. Very hyper, but couldn't this be dye-off too?
Joan Pandas Mom Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 Hi Wilma, I'm wish I could be of more help. My son was very hyper too. When this started he too would run around the house, constant movement. He was very active as a little boy, but this was different. I don't know the psych meds your child is on, but I think the meds Sammy was told to stay away from were the SSRI. Sammy was on 1 psch med throughout his healing process, Zyprexa. It helps control the thoughts. I can't find my book, but I think he was on a pretty high dose and it helped.
