adkmom Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 Has anyone had experience with their child complaining their feet hurt? My 4 yr old has been complaining of this on and off for several months. Right after he was diagnosed with PANDAS it seemed to increase. He also started blinking as a tic, but on and off. Happens a lot in front of the tv and computer. What is with that? Thanks everyone!
PhillyPA Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 My son's first pandas episode was at age 5. During it he complained of his feet and knees hurting him. The tv and the computer screen can trigger thing in the brain. I know they can trigger seizures. My son avoided the tv and computer. He refused to look at them and actually left the room when they were on.
Johnsmom Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 DS had a spell where he blinked a lot. He always wants his feet rubbed and complains on and off about feet and legs hurting. Pretty normal PANDAS stuff I would say.

lyme_mom Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 BArtonella can cause foot pain, especially in the am on the soles of the feet. I had traveling foit pain that went away with my lyme bartonella treatment. Bartonella can look like PANDAS so I would definitely look into that possibility. Mercury toxicity and other infections can also cause many Lyme or pandas like symptoms too so it's good to cast a wide net to see what you think might be part of the problem. Bartonella can cause neurological symptoms out of proportion to the physical complaints and it is hard to treat and usually requires a combo of antibiotics like rifampin, doxy or amoxicillin and Azithromycin. Bactrin is used too sometimes. A Lyme literate doctor would be a good person to see for a second opinion about whether other infections also play a role. It is very common to have multiple infections that require different medications to treat.
adkmom Posted December 4, 2010 Author Report Posted December 4, 2010 Thanks to everyone who replied. You're all soooo helpful! We were debating a trip to another specialist -this time an immunologist but now I'm so glad we have the appt.
nicklemama Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 My DS6 has been complaining of the bottoms of his feet hurting for the past year. He started eye blinking tics in early Oct 10. We believe his first PANDAS episode started in Oct 09. It went untreated until Oct 10. When we started treatment nearly two months ago, the eye blinking was the first of his symptoms to go. He still tics some. Throat clearing mostly. TV and computer cause him to tic more. He's only complained of his feet hurting a few times since he started biaxin in Oct. My son has had all kinds of OCD's and fears but the worst part has been his behavior which nearly did our family in. He is so much better now. Cindy

adkmom Posted December 5, 2010 Author Report Posted December 5, 2010 I feel terrible looking back, my poor guy kept whining about his feet and I thought he was just being lazy. (although he went from being a super little hiker at age 2 and never complaining to whining that he needed to be carried) It's so tricky because then it would just disappear (i think) and he wouldn't mention it. And he'd run circles in the playground?! without complaining. His tics are worse in front of the tv or when he's trying to concentrate on something. He rubs his hands over his head and shrugs slightly. But now he has slight blinking spells, also mostly in front of the tv or computer. Darlene
nicklemama Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Darlene- We are a very outdoor oriented family. My DS6 could out hike everyone. He seemed to never tire and loved to be out walking. We went to Yellowstone in summer 09 w/ another family and he was a real trooper. Since PANDAS, he tires easily and frequently asks to be carried and complains his feet are hurting. He's undergoing abx treatment right now. He complains less frequently about his feet. It remains to be seen how he will recover the stamina to hike, bike, snow ski, soccer, etc... He declined to play soccer this fall. Cindy
lyme_mom Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Lyme goes crazy around high emfs which u might have in front of a tv. Mold does too. Btw. Just a thought. I would not see an infectious disease doctor after what they are doing with Lyme.
