My son's myco-p test just came in at 1.5 (ref .9> is positive). He has had a horrendous couple of months of upper respiratory illness. As a result behavior is a mess, rages/swearing, separation anxiey, catastrophic fears. I made an appt with Dr. L for next week because I thought it was strep, but those tests look normal. It is taking me an HOUR to get him into school in the am (oh yeah and he is 14 not a little kid). He was on azith a week or so before this test. Do you all think I should still see her? He has a history of pneumonias (one hospitalization), so is he a PITANDS kid?

Thanks,

PatAnne

You might want to PM with Mom2Alex... Her son had six pneumonias with the last kicking off PANDAS/PITANDS episode. They have since unravel her son had a co-infection for bartonella and are currently doing provocation testing for LD. Her son has had two hdIVIG and is now making steady progress with 'Lyme' antibiotic protocol.

I think her experience might be very helpful.

My ds had an episode last winter that was caused by Mycoplasmas P. I know now strep was the cause of OCD He has had it since 8yrs old) but Mycoplasmas was something different. My son went crazy ( not like annoying OCD) with rage, swearing, and anxiety along with physical symptoms. ( headaches, respiratory illness) It was one of the most single scariest times of our lives. I would definitely go after it. IMHO Myco is even more scarier than strep. AND yes Myco P can most definitely can be epicenter of pan/pit.

Hi,

Hard to say how old infection is, but since IgM is still showing up, chances are fairly recent, especially if he was clinically symptomatic. Azithromycin works on Mycoplasma, but clarithromycin is preferred by some physicians. My son showed no IgM at time of draw, but his IgG climbed from 5.6 to 6.7! That was in a couple of months, during which time he was, of course, having a relapse of tics, OCD, behaviors, fears, etc. This included coprolalia (swearing uncontrollably, and repeating of bad words). He was treated first with clarithromycin (Biaxin) followed by azithromycin, and finally penicillin vk. Both -mycin drugs work well for my son. Penicillin did not keep him from relapsing during sinus infection, so doc thinks more likely Mycoplasma is the culprit. However, to complicate things, my son doesn't show rise in titers during strep infection.

Well, we had to take him out of school early last year (home and hospital) because he was such a mess. Unbelievable anxiety, and just such a mess until august. I wonder if he had myco-p back then? He was diagnosed with PANDAS at age 9 with symptoms since age 3. Back then no one tested for myco-p. At age 9 tests were negative for strep. He also had a postive ana back then, and low C4 which has steadily gone up over the years. When he is sick he looks like death, really pale and weak can barely function.

sounds just like my son except mine had high aso titer as well as high myco. p titer. My son also had some problem with toes. (could not run)

He had MP for a couple of years at least ( he had been complaining about toes and that was the deciding factor for me as MP was never mentioned by any Dr I knew before this yr including 3 of my MD siblings) as if these were not enough problems, my son also has allergies to practically everything---food, trees, weeds, animals, god knows what else--, and of course gut problems. MP is something you cannot overlook if your son had shown those symptoms. For most it maybe walking pneumonia but for my son it was turning him into an alien.
