emmalily Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 So I got a cold last week. It was really slow coming on so I barely noticed that I was getting sick. It finally did knock me out on Thanksgiving. I never raised a fever on the thermometer but I felt very much like I had one and then I felt what a fever breaking usually feels like (my temp does usually run low, ~96, so it may have been a fever for me at 98). My OCD crept in just barely that day and mostly I just felt kind of lousy; actually the PANDAS symptoms that were more prominent than OCD last week were inability to concentrate and achy fingers. I felt a little a squirrelly over the weekend, and by that I mean that I felt like I was sort of at the edge of a panic attack most of the time, but it didn't stop me from going out with my family. Back to normal by today, went out by myself, had a nice time, no OCD whatsoever. Felt like it was good news worth sharing. I'm almost at year from starting PANDAS treatments and about six months since starting Augmentin (generic) XR 1000 2x daily. Also, I did a month of Biaxin (September) and haven't had daily OCD since then. Crossing my fingers
peglem Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 That is fantastic news! Thanks for sharing.
Fixit Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 That is fantastic... Thank you for sharing!!!! It helps all of us...and really the parents to know such healing is attainable as children grow up!!!! Thank YOU!!!!!
Mary M Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Thank you for sharing. It reassures me to know 1) that healing is in the future for all PANDAS once proper treatment has begun and 2) that you can glean so much from your own awareness of the symptoms. May I ask....when you notice a cold or illness coming on, do you get scared and/or more anxious as you await the possible eruption of symptoms, even before the symptoms actually surface?? I think, perhaps, that is what my dd12 recently experienced. She was sick the week before Thanksgiving (first illness since IVIg)and she wouldn't share it but I think she was afraid of a spike in symptoms, even before any symptoms were actually present. Mary

Mary Yes, I was definitely stressed about it when I finally did notice that it was coming on (Wednesday night). But I'm definitely not as scared as I used to be of the symptoms themselves, I'm more stressed about missing out on something because of them... so hopefully your daughter might get more comfortable with the possibility of symptoms as time goes on.
thereishope Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Glad to hear that what did creep up wasn't that bad and short lived. I say that's a definite sign of healing!

Emmalily, Missing out on things..that is such a common thread. My dd12 acts as though she'd like to do something or participate in some activity but then stresses over it and opts out. And I think, like you, she stresses over missing out too even when she makes the choice to withdraw from the event. I am so glad that you were able to maintain through this particular round of illness. This shows some amazing progress. That in and of itself should really help to keep you positive on good days and not so good days. Mary from Michigan
KaraM Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Very glad for you, Emmalily and so appreciative for the insight you give to us as parents as to how our children, may be feeling... Kara
