justinekno Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 Has anyone used for Lyme? My son's liver enzymes are slightly elevated and I am concerned because my husband has liver disease (non alcohol related - autoimmune) so this scares me. Our LLMD consulted with a well known LLMD and the general consensus is that the elevated enzymes are due to bone growth. I did see bone growth as being a reason when I researched earlier. All of his other liver numbers and other bloodwork (CBC) was normal so the dr's are not concerned. He was off of the antibiotics for 4 days prior to the test and the dr doesn't feel that zith and bactrim would cause the elevation. I read that zith can but the nurse at his office said that is usually with long term (years) of use. I am just not comfortable putting him back on the antibiotics but if the elevation is due to bone growth or detox (we've done none) then going off antibiotics won't make a difference. Our LLMD suggested using the glutathione as a detox. I'm wondering if we can use it but without the antibiotics. My son has had a rash on his arms and face the entire time he has been on antibiotics and now it is going away. I don't know how that is related but it must be somehow.

So was it just the alkaline phosphatase that was elevated? If so, they can run a test called alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes to see if the elevation is coming from the bone or somewhere else. My daughter had an alk. phos of 4,410 once (normal range=100-400). They did the isoenzymes and determined that it was coming from bone. They said it was very unusual to see one that high, except with a broken bone or bone disease. But, they were certain that her liver was OK. Never did figure out why it shot up so high, and it came back down over about 6 weeks back to normal.
NancyD Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 My DD14 had monthly NAC/Glutathione infusions for about two or three years and they REALLY helped my daughter. Of course, this was long before she was diagnosed for either PANDAS or LD. I can tell you it cleared up her severe colitis and allowed her to eat gluten, dairy, and soy again. Other than dyes and additives, she is no longer on a restricted diet. Since being diagnosed with PANDAS almost 8 years ago she has had these infusions periodically and they have definitely helped her immune system. Since being diagnosed with LD a couple of months ago she had one NAC/Glutathione and it seemed to reduce her fatigue and moodiness. She was also experiencing severe diarrhea because of the Tindamax and her doctor reduced it to 3 days per week bid (down from 7 days per week bid) and also added in bentonite on days she is taking Tindamax, so I can't necessarily say that the NAC/Glutathione helped to eliminate the diarrhea. I'm a big believer in Glutathione IVs. I also met a woman recently who has severe and chronic LD for over 10 years and she told me that none of the abx helped her until she started doing regular Glutathione IVs. She is now in remission. I wish we could go back to doing monthly NAC/Glutathione IVs but our doctor is 4 hours away and since I too am sick with LD I find this much too difficult to be driving 8 hours in one day. But, she will have them each time we go. Nancy
Fixit Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 So Nacny...that was glutathione and nac infusion...not just glutathione.... is that the standard...so when someone says they get glutathionhe treatments...the nac is automaticlly assumed?
NancyD Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 No, NAC is not automatically assumed. Glutathione can be done by itself.
LNN Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 For whatever it's worth, DS8 started taking Alpha Lipoic Acid in Oct for detox and it really seemed to help with brain fog (as did the Bactrim). But he complained about trouble swallowing the uncoated pill. So this week, LLMD switched DS to oral glutathione in a capsule. DS said on Day 2 he could definitely tell a difference and he thought it was great.
mama2alex Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 (edited) My ds10 started taking transdermal glutathione (a cream applied to his stomach or thighs) years ago, but we stopped that and most other supplements about a year before his sudden, severe onset of PANDAS symptoms in June '09. I'll always wonder if that decision made him vulnerable. Needless to say, he's back on transdermal glutathione indefinitely. We tried the liquid for a while, but he hated the taste and I worried about absorbtion in going through his gut. Here's a good article on the basics of glutathione and ways to boost it other than direct supplementation: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/glutathione-the-mother-of_b_530494.html Edited December 5, 2010 by mama2alex
