Guest Guest_efgh
ALL My son has been having high fever since 3 days. (around 39.5 that is 103 plus). doctor prescribed paracetomol and antibiotic. when I give him the paracetemol or ibuprofen fever comes down but again shoots up. he is weak due to vomitting, no food and severe cold/cough and high fever.. Is it ok to give paracetemol or ibuprofen once in 5 hours? any other tips.. Just started the antibiotic course today.. I am against all this but looks like no choice. Which is better = paracetemol like tylenol or ibuprofen? Any home remedies for fever?? Which probiotic do you all suggest along with the antibiotic - the pharmacist said that I can take a "fungal probiotic" instead of a "bacterial probiotic". What is the difference? Can you please explain. Hoping and praying that his fever subsides. He would have lost a few pounds just today due to fever and vomit..Other than water , what can I give him to eat/drink? Claire, how is your son now? How high was his fever?
Claire
efgh So sorry! We found ibuprofen best for lowering fever (I found nothing on health sites for it). The other thing is a tepid bath (cooler but not cold)--that will work--too cruel on him if he has the shivering fever though (ask you doctor about this). If no bath, maybe a bag of ice on the back of his neck? I would ask the doctor though because to some degree the body is raising its temp to kill the infection. 103 sounds pretty high though... Be sure to have him drink lots of fluids. I will say a prayer for him. Sometimes you just need the antibiotics! My son is still on them. The Zithromax helped the sinuses, but then his bronchial cough (lots of phlemm) got worse. So they put him on Cefzil and this is day 6 with no improvement. But no fever anymore and he is out and about. But his peak flow meter is only 200 from the bronchitis...The doctor was a bit concerned about the low reading. Chemar
hi efgh so sorry to hear of your son's illness. Paracetemol is usually a rapid fever reducer. The tepid bath that Claire mentioned is good Natural yoghurt is the best fungal probiotic I know of as is KEFIR remember that garlic and honey are 2 of the most powerful natural antibiotics! and homemade chicken soup is excellent! Sure hope he feels better soon with love and (((hugs))) Cheri
Guest Guest_efgh
Claire and Chemar Thanks a lot for your kind posts. Thankfully, fever is down today (after two full days of ibuprofen , I also tried the tepid bath but he would not like it and had to give up). Claire , my doctor put my son too on Cefzil (cefprozil is the ingredient). This is day 2 of the antibiotic. Fever is down but the cough is horrible and being an asthmatic he is easily prone to asthma cough attack after any infection. His peak flow is low too about 180 when it actually was 260 on normal days. What did your doctor advice you on the peak flow reading? what was his personal best before his bronchitis and what is it now? Chemar, sure will try home made soup, garlic and honey. thanks. I generally give him garlic on a regular basis but due to his sudden high fever, I am a bit too stressed to even attend to him.. Hoping and praying that his severe cough comes down. Any home remedies for such persistent cough? thanks.
Chemar
. Any home remedies for such persistent cough? thanks. black tea with juice of one lemon and lots of honey dissolved in it seems to always work wonders. I mentioned to another poster about BUCHU (pronounced booghoo) It comes from southern Africa and is a wonder treatment for respiratory ills (and other stuff too) maybe see if your health store has it? Glad the fever is broken and will continue to pray for a full and fast recovery for your son, and peace and strength for you
Guest Guest_mmazz
If you have a juicer run lemon through it with as much as the white on as possible. Place the juice you get from that in hot water and raw honey. This will rehydrate him as well as detox him from all the meds. Also, fresh carrot juice is great for asthma. But I would wait with the carrot until he is better because carrot will also detox him but will cause some minor congestion for the first week as a healing crisis. Guest Diane
efgh, my oldest son, also asthmatic, was always prone to horrible cough after high fever infections and finally saw a consulting pediatrician who prescribed inhalers to be used at the first sign of cough. This put the medication directly into his bronchii which was what he needed. He rarely needs the inhalers after two days, his cough always goes away. Since this only happens once or twice a year at most, I feel it's a good solution. If you want to know the type of inhaler and dose, I can let you know. Also Benylin Nighttime works very well although the inhalers are more fixing the cause, while Benylin is just treating the symptom. Diane
Claire
efgh, I don't know my son's normal reading--I bought the peak flow meter when he had this bronchitis/sinus infection, so he could observe the progress. Glad the fever broke! I assume you have the hepa filer on and the bedding freshly washed for the cough (as I told Alison) --ths makes a difference for us. In fact, I didn't hear my son cough this morning (finally!), my fingers are crossed. Claire
Guest Guest
Hi Efgh, How's your son? Hope he's doing fine. Elder berry is a good one for cold. It's been raining a lot in my area recently. I feel my son's a little short of breath, and I can hear the wheezing tonight. He told me because of the rain. Interest enough, his meter reading is 250+ today (higher than before). BTW, if I remember correctly, he is 2 years younger than yours. Guest Guest_efgh
Thanks Jean. What is elder berry? My son is 10 years old, is your son 8 years old? By the way, my son is doing much better. He had been on inhalers for 4 days when he had the recent bout of cough, fever etc. He is ok now.
Chemar
so glad your son is better efgh Elder trees grow wild in many parts of the world and produce profuse white elder floowers that then give rise to purple/black elder berries. Both the flowers and the berries have long been used in naturopathic medicine and cosmetics. Very good stuff comes from the elder tree!
