Kbossman1 Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 I joined this forum a little over a week ago......and today I decided to quit begging my pediatrican to do what I've been asking and just go the distance to someone who knows what they're doing. Dr. B takes our insurance, so we're on our way December 15th! Can't wait. Thought that I would share the good news, and ask for those of you that have been before.....any advice, recommendations??.....We are going to the office in Darien, CT. Thanks!
kmom Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 Do you have any hotel points? We first stayed at The Marriot Hotel in Stamford for free on points. The last time we used points for The Holiday Inn...didn't have enough for the 2 nts we were there for IVIG but using the points we had cut it down to $60/nt. Oh and Dr. B has a special deal with a hotel nearby. It's $84/nt. I have the info in a folder downstairs. I'm in bed but if u want it I can get u the info. Other moms use Hotwire.com for good deals. Good luck. He's great!
KaraM Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 Congratulations on your decision!! We stayed at the Doubletree in Norwalk. It's about 5 minutes away. It has a very warm pool and they give fresh, warm give cookies when you arrive. It's not exactly cheap, but I don't think anything clean and reputable is going to be in that part of the country - too close to NYC. The first time we went down, we stayed at a Marriot in Stamford, but it's not as close and I think it was a little more expensive ( a little fancier, though, too - with a hot tub in addition to a pool). Also, if you have some extra time, there is an aquarium/maritime center that was nice to visit - not too big. Our kids, 8 and 10, enjoyed it very much. And right across the street from that, a good restaurant for Thai food (if you like it). Kara
Ebersolk Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 We did hotwire. We put in 3 1/2 stars (www.hotwire.com) and requested pool and ended up staying at Holiday Inn Select (you don't know what hotel you get) but it was $70 with taxes. You can put in whatever # stars you want and read reviews before booking.
JGsmom Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 The Doubletree in Norwalk has an arrangement with Dr. B-- it's $84 per night that includes the pool and the gym. It is a very nice hotel and we have stayed twice and were very happy. Literally 8 minutes from the Darien facility. Where are you coming from? The Doubletree info: You must call Elizabeth Pimpinella- Corporate Sales Manager Direct line 203.523.2257 She will book it for you on the dates you require and take your credit card info--the are extremely accomodating. I am very happy with Dr. B--hope you will find some answers.

JGsmom Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 I would call the office ahead of time and fax all blood work and tests you have had done. Then I would request him to order any blood work he ( Dr. wants BEFORE you go so that the results there and you will not waste precious time. This way he has more info in front of him for your first visit. We travel from RI, so I wanted to be efficient. Do know that his office staff is very nice, but overworked and you will have to call repeatedly to get things done. Do not assume that something you requested has been done--sometimes you can lost in the shuffle, so just be aware. make sure he has received all results from you (old and any new) before you go--that is an issue. All the best.
kimballot Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Just wanted to say - glad you made the appointment and glad your insurance will work for it!
