If she is reactive and stuff is resolving within a short period of time 'days' and her recovery is still on a good path..... I wouldn't worry unless she showed obvious signs of strep throat with white patches. Our older son was reactive last year.... I am not noticing it this year. We even had a confirmed case in his class too and we did not notice a reaction.

Our son reacted to all bacteria and viruses last year with neurological (PANDAS) symptoms. As time goes by, he reacts less and less and his reactions are milder. He recently became ill with a very severe cold and slightly regressed a few weeks ago. At his worst, he was still at least 88% better than a year ago. I have read that other bacterias, viruses and parasites can increase lyme/coinfection symptoms.

Last Thursday, I received a call from the nurse that someone was out in my daughter's class with strep. The nurse told me the mother took her child to the doctor's office Wednesday evening with a MILD sore throat and she tested positive, but was wondering if she could bring her child to school because the child was feeling fine. Of course, the nurse said "No Way, She needs to be on abx for 24 hours before returning". The mother called me later on Thursday (a little miffed) to tell me she had to take the day off of work even though her daughter felt fine. I felt like screaming to her "you don't know how lucky you are to have a doctor who is smart enough to run a throat culture on a MILD sore throat". My dd's ped never did!

Anyhow, my daughter came home Thursday with increase anxiety regarding a social issue with another child. After I received the call from the nurse, I was planning on keeping her home on Friday. But when my daughter came home refusing to go back to school because of the issue, I decided it was best to send her to avoid her thinking she can stay home whenever she has difficulties. She cried most of the night and I walked her into school the next morning. I arranged for the child she had an issue with to come over after school, and of course, they made-up and had a great evening. Over the weekend her behavior was really good too.

So I thought, yay, she was unaffected by the strep. Well, when she came home from school on Monday, her symptoms increased. She told me the girl who sits next to her (U shaped configuration) vomited in the classroom and went home early. The girl was also out Tuesday but returned yesterday. Meanwhile, I am still seeing an increase of symptoms, not major, but more difficult.

My dd is taking Zith and Amox daily. Should I take her in for a culture? Won't it come back negative anyway because of the abxs? Her throat looks slighty red but she is not complaining of any physical pain. Or should I just ride this out and see if the increase is due to her just being exposed to strep?

Sorry so long!

Hmmm, she already on two abxs. She is probably ok, and I would guess the problem is other kids in the classroom will keep passing it around. But I have to say my son did get an ear infection while on Augmentin XR (they had to add Rifampin), so better safe that sorry.
