My daughter was recently diagnosed w/ PANDAS. Doc said we should have family members checked if we are carriers of strep. I should have asked him at the time what test that would be. Has anyone done this and can tell me what test this is? Also, if one of us is a carrier, how is that treated?

I was about to ask the same question? I hope someone replies with an answer.

Thanks,

Here are a couple of threads that should help.

Bottom line - have the whole family tested first with throat swab and extended cultures. If that's negative, request that your family doc order ASO and Anti-DNAse B titers for everybody (or those who had negative cultures). This has been a big problem for our family and probably explains why our son's PANDAS condition remained chronic for a long time.

Say we test the whole family and the dog and everyone gets antibiotics and we rid the STREP, then a week later we run into someone who has STREP and our family is reinfected, does this then become a continuous cycle?

I believe our son has PANDAS and I'm also trying to figure out the next step in treating him, but as I read the forums I get discouraged because it seems like most kids are good until they are exposed again and then they have to start all over again from square 1. If I'm understanding this wrong and someone has had this disease and totally recovered due to some type of treatment, please let me know and give me encouragement that this is even worth trying to treat.

Also...are there any adults with PANDAS?

I would think you can't just go by one titers check but that you need to recheck them too because if you are exposed to or had strep within a pretty large window of time your titers could still be elevated even if you are not a carrier if I am understand correctly,
