pixiesmommy Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 A friend of mine whose son has had PANDAS symptoms for years (he is now 15) saw a neurologist yesterday and mentioned PANDAS. She said the response was very favorable and she seemed knowledgeable about symptoms and treatment. The only caveat is that she said she would "test" him for PANDAS w/ Anti-Dnase B titers. BUT I thought I would throw her name out there to anyone in the area who is looking for a neuro or someone to hear them out. I don't know if she truly believes there is a test, or if she was just doing this out of curiosity and will treat him, IF she treats, etc. She did talk about IVIG to my friend, however, so that is on her radar. Her name is Herminia Ferreras and she works out of the Pediatric Neurology center at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord, NC. Here is a link to her info
nevergiveup Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 I would like to piggy back on this thread with another doc, in cincinnati, recently mentioning ivig to a child with high titers and chorea mild and tics. Dr Wu a neurologist at Cincinnati Childrens offered a friend of mines son ivig if they want, However said "I would not do it if it was my kid" soooooO scared the mom, but offered. I wonder if he would have followed through with his offer. So just putting this out there for all the Ohio folks. But again, high strep titers was why child was diagnosed with Pandas. So for all those with no titers, look into immune deficiencies, like Dr T speculated on line here with his two types of pandas. Recently learned that kids with immune def's don't have normal titer responses to all kinds of infections, soooooo this is why blood cultures need to be done on them rather than titer tests. (This is not for panda kids rather for immune deficient kids when docs are trying to find infection if they have a fever)
mom md Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Dr. Corbier in Concord also treats PANDAS, including IVIG.
pixiesmommy Posted October 9, 2010 Author Report Posted October 9, 2010 (edited) Is he a neuro? Also, does he diagnose, and if so, how? Edited October 9, 2010 by pixiesmommy
Megs_Mom Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 He is a neuro and he diagnoses w clinical neurological exam, review of history, and testing as needed. We do not have titers. He has a lot of experience, but is less aggressive initially. He is a great person, and also works a LOT with autism.
EAMom Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 The only caveat is that she said she would "test" him for PANDAS w/ Anti-Dnase B titers. Hmmmm. So, if your child has neg anti-dnase b titers, they won't treat? It doesn't seem like this doc is too up to date with current PANDAS info. if that is how she "tests" for PANDAS.
Suzan Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Her name is Herminia Ferreras and she works out of the Pediatric Neurology center at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord, NC. She works in the same office as Dr. Coribier. I'd say Dr. C is the more experienced doc but he is very busy and hard to get in to see. I would say she would also be a good resource especially if you are a knowledgable PANDAS parent and know what questions to ask and I'm sure she is learning quickly as there are a lot of pandas patients around here!
