justinekno Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 As part of my son's immune workup for IVIG approval, his polio titers were checked. They came back as undetectable and our dr suggests having him revaccinated. In reading up on this,I came across this statement "in vaccinated individuals, the significance of a low antibody titer to poliovirus 3 (the least immunogenic vaccine serotype) is unclear". The labwork says something similiar. Has anybody had any experience with this? My son received all three IPV vaccines in a timely manner.
Sylvia Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 I would be extremely leary of the Polio vaccine. This vaccine has been contaminated with viruses from the monkeys kidney the polio virus is grown on, and many think some are still contaminated: http://www.sv40foundation.org/ But since P.A.N.D.A.S. is an autoimmune/immune dysfunction disorder, I would really worry about giving ANY vaccine. justinekno Posted October 8, 2010 Author Report Posted October 8, 2010 (edited) I agree. We are holding off on any vaccines per our integrative dr but our PANDAS dr thought that the killed Polio vaccine was worth doing bc of the titers. I need to call our integrative dr tomorrow and get his thoughts. I was just curious if anyone had any experience with getting their child's titers for Polio. Stephanie2 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 All I can say is that we had one of our worst pandas exacerbations within 2 weeks of the polio vaccine for my (then) 4 year old. That was the last shot that either of my children ever received. Also, I happened to look up the ingredients and the polio vaccine contains strep...?
justinekno Posted October 10, 2010 Author Report Posted October 10, 2010 Interestingly enough, our reg ped felt that polio titers are not a reliable source of proof of immunity and therefore did not think re-vaccination was necessary. He said he has never revaccinated a child. I thought this was ironic that a mainstream dr would say this (he is not treating us for PANDAS or Lyme).
