  1. Hi, There are many on this site who have had great success going the natural way. One thing recommended is to try and read some past posts. I have seen improvements in my daughters OCD/depression and tics from doing diet changes and supplements. She still tics though not as many at one time. I took my daughter last Oct. to a neurologist and he told me "your daughter has tourettes there's nothing you can do other than medication". That didn't sit well with me and I was led to this site which has helped so much. It's all so overwhelming at first and I still have moments but it has gotten so much better. My daugher has not followed the diet (gluten free/caesin free) too much during Aug. for many different reasons, one being she's a strong willed 11 year old and I've noticed an increase in tics. I hope this is a start for you and helps you out. Hang in there!!
  2. Thanks so much for the feedback. I'll let you know if we try it and how it works.
  3. Hi, My husband's aunt emailed me a post from an M.D. who said she's been using Krill oil pills for kids with Tourettes and for a few it's taking the tics away. She said she gives the kids 6 - 8 gel caps a day. I'm thinking of trying after we ask our DAN doctor but was wondering if anyone else heard of this. Lisa
  4. My husband read on Yahoo news that Walmart is going to start stocking a lot of gluten free products which will make it so much easier for people. Just wanted to share that news with whoever has a Walmart in their area.
  5. My daughter has ADD (along with a slew of other things ) and would just get into these "frenzies" and I couldn't reach her. I saw a natural doctor and he said the same as Chemar mentioned. No artificial colorings and cut way, way back on sugar. It was very hard at first but what a difference. My son had been having some rages and because of the diet changes for his sister he too had to comply and his rages rarely pop up - unless he's had too much sugar. Now, 7 months later I do give both a treat once a week or maybe once every 2 weeks. They don't nag about it anymore but sure do jump at the chance to get a treat. I will again repeat it's hard to implement at the beginning but if you can stick with it you'll see such positive results it will spur you on. Good luck!
  6. Andy, Thanks for your comments and advice. I will ask about NDF. Also, thanks for the sunbathing tip - Sydnie is the typical girl who LOVES to lay in the sun after the pool. Thanks again!
  7. Yes, I'll keep you posted. Won't know anything until mid August. I agree about reg. doctors. Insurance would maybe cover it too. We decided against chelation at this point because it is too expensive. Her supplements alone are a few hundred dollars every 6 weeks. Yes it's worth it but if you don't have it, you don't have it. My aunt who is very involved in Autism and started the chelatingkids2 website said that the supplements she's taking will pull out the metals but at a slower pace. I was happy to hear that. Sydnie's doctor recommeded just recently zinc, selenium the milk thistle and additional B12 (she now gets a shot of it 2x week). She also takes some other supplements from Kirkmans. Her tics are still the same - have seemed to increase since school's out and it could be the chlorine from our pool and TV/playstaion. She won't stop swimming but my aunt said to dilute some epson salts and spray her when she gets out of the pool so we will be trying that. Our pool man said he puts in the minimum amount of chemicals needed. I"ll be trying the epson salts and let ya know. Lisa
  8. Kim, My daughter's liver levels are elevated according to blood test taken by her doctor. She is currently on Milk Thistle and she will be re-tested in Aug. My husband had had elevated liver levels last fall and took milk thistle (along with changing a prescription med) and when he was re-tested his levels were down. So, hopefully her levels will balance out with the milk thistle. Thanks for posting all this helpful info lately. Love it. Lisa
  9. NAA ACTION ALERT Many parents are concerned about ABC's coverage of the autism-mercury issue. If you are unhappy with last night's news package, The National Autism Association encourages you to let them know. During last night's coverage: No Scientist, Researcher or Doctor familiar with the connection between autism and thimerosal was interviewed. Author David Kirby was not interviewed. Lyn Redwood's credentials were not disclosed. ABC's Timothy Johnson gave a one-sided commentary that championed the IOM and CDC all while endorsing the use of thimerosal in vaccines. Johnson ridiculed RFK, yet readily accepted CDC's position on the issue. The CDC said there is no cover-up and Johnson took them at their word without further research. ABC followed this story with a package about high-sugar cereals and how bad it may be for children, yet they favored the use of a bloodstream-bound neurotoxin. We suggest that the entire autism and developmental-delay community flood ABC with faxes. Do a one-page letter about your child's mercury poisoning symptoms, the regression, etc. and if you have it, include a second page that is his/her worst chelation results. We also suggest that you send a copy to other people in the media. Please make your letters as firm as you wish, but refrain from using what may be perceived as threatening or harassing words. Brian Williams said Tuesday on Imus in the Morning that NBC is going to look into this again. We think he needs to get copies of everything we send to ABC! The media needs to be reminded that Autism is mercury poisoning. The CDC and FDA are in the indefensible position of saying excess mercury does not cause mercury poisoning. Let's show them what a bunch of determined parents wanting the truth for their children can do! Fax number of ABC: Tim Johnson, (212) 456-5962, Charles Gibson, (212) 456-7290 Fax number of NBC Nightly News: (212) 664-6044 If you want to help and send a third fax, please send a copy of your letter and chelation results to Senator Enzi. Senator Rick Santorum announced today on Imus in the Morning that Senator Enzi is beginning investigations on Capital Hill. Senator Enzi's staff need to hear your story, your thanks for opening an investigation, and see the results of your child's chelation proving heavy-metal toxicity. 10. Kim, the following info. was sent to me. The first links are to view ads against giving mercury to kids. I thought you might find the last bit interesting regarding Evidence of Harm. Lisa (Sydsmom) Here is a link where if you just click on where it says NY Times ad , you'll see what ran. (check out the USA Today one too) http://www.generationrescue.org/mediacenter.html And this one: http://www.unlockingautism.org/ and you can see one ad....you will have to click on the ad and register to see all 6. Just click on them and they will enlarge. AWESOME.....people are making flyers out of these and passing out, taping on their cars, mailing to their dr's/dept. of heath's etc. and if you look on : http://www.barnesandnoble.com/gateway/bestsellers.asp?userid =b406o2cBgn You will see that we pushed Evidence of Harm to #3 in one day.....ahead of Oprah's book club pick ;~) This does NOT count store sales and will put Evidence of Harm onto the New York Times Best Seller list. Should be mentioned next week and listed two weeks from now.
  11. Thanks Kim Sydnie tested high (from hair sample) for Calcium and Magnesium and middle for zinc. I will be talking with the Dr. on June 20th to go over her blood test results. I went back and looked at her supplements and the Digest Right has enzymes in it. Not sure which one. All of the medical lingo and such just escapes me. My husband is better at explaining and comprehending things. I used to be so smart but lately my mind I will post after my talk with the doctor on June 20th. I do know this, whether her tics go away or not, life with Sydnie is soooo much better because of diet and supplements. I also had her neurologist and pediatrician tell me "your daughter has TS you just have to live with it". I just started praying and so my journey began and I feel God has led us on this path. I'm so glad I didn't listen to those doctors. So is Sydnie! She tells me she feels so much better mentally. One of her big things was depression and it is so much more under control. Just normal pre-teen hormones now.
  12. Kim, My daughter is seeing a DAN doctor in LA. She thinks we will start chelation in late June using the DMPS drops. She is currently on supplements under the doctor's supervision. We also do the GF/CF diet. Have seen great improvements in mood and behaviors but not tics yet. Her hair test was high in metals and we are waiting for her blood test to come back and be reviewed by the doctor. Hoping when the metals are under control so will the tics be under control. We'll see. The diet is hard but it has made such a difference. My daughter is 11 so the hardest part is getting her to cooperate without a fight. I'm lucky to live in an area with some great health food stores.
