  1. I am giving her 400 mg 3 x a day. Based on her body weight of 82 pounds, I think 370 mg is the recommendation. It is helping with the mood swings, for sure, but the OCD is pretty out of control...not sure she is going to be able to keep going to school. She "can't" read for some reason...although she was at the 6th grade level as she finished 3rd grade in June... and just won't even look at a sentence of homework. Anybody have any ideas for her? (Also medicating without Dr. supervision with 1500 mg. of Keflex purchased online, soon to be replaced with 3 x day of 500/125 mg. Augmentin. Seeing Dr. B for the first time Sept. 29th unless we can jump into a cancellation.
  2. Thanks for that article. I am concerned about giving my daughter all of the meds she needs right now, that its just a matter of time until her stomach really flares up. As an ulcer sufferer at age 15 myself caused by tetracycline for acne, I would like to avoid that for her, but, as you said, the alternative is not at all good. Currently she is taking 3 x keflex a day, 6 x advil, and 3 x probiotic, all of these at the same times. Amazingly, with threats or bribes, I am getting them down her, but she is very oppositional...VERY VERy oppositional. So giving her the probiotics at other times may not work for us... by the way, what probiotics and dosage would you give? I am using Nature's Way Reuteri, which has 1 billion each. I give her 1 pill 3 x a day. Thanks! Laura
  3. How much motrin would it be appropriate to give a 9 year old 82 pounder?
  4. How long did you wait to be recalled, because I have been waiting for 8 days just to get called just to schedule an appointment... thanks!

  6. Can I ask how much your daughter weighs? Because we are medicating on our own until Dr. Nicolaides can fit us in, and using Amox875 w/Clav 125 but only once a day for our 82 pounder. Not much of a change after 5 days of this...
  7. I am a new member, and I so appreciate all of your feedback! I am wondering, as an extremely busy professional dealing with a PANDAS child now for just 2 short months, I am feeling like I can barely function in my job, just consumed with this issue and sadness over it. I've never used any anti-depressants at all, but take TONS of supplements to combat that and also exercise upwards of an hour a day to stay sane, (both routines of many years, because my job is stressful and I am trapped in it) so now what do I do to hold it together?? Already I am pushing the glass of wine in the evening to 2...large ones...
  8. Who is Dr L? How can I contact her? Desperate for help in central NY!
  9. So was it hard to persuade your kids to even go to therapy? Because 99% of the time my daughter won't even hear word one even from us about her even having a problem...the one initial counseling session I did take her to (tricked her into going) , (before PANDAS diagnosis), she was so incredibly angry I thought she was going to run out in traffic right then and there.
  10. So now you all sound a little bit OCD ish...but I'd walk backwards on my hands if it would help!
  11. So now that my 9 year old daughter with overnight OCD in mid-July is on Augmentin, (and much improved) will she still need psych help (Cognitive Behavior Therapy, etc.) to completely get over it? She still can't touch handles of any type - faucets, car doors, house doors - and I am wondering if that goes away on its own eventually? Saving Sammy never really covered that. Any wisdom?
  12. Well, I'd risk trying it while I waited for an apt. if I were desperate but I wouldn't go this alone becasue its far too difficult. But you need a prescription to get antibiotics unless you get them out of country. Not sure how you'd do that. I'd probably start by begging my pediatrician or general practitioner for a month of augmentin or azithromycin, telling them how much the amox. helped and bring them info from this site and asking them what can it hurt?? Best of luck. It'd be worth a two day drive if you can get someone on your team. Thanks for your advice...it is easy actually to order antibiotics online...but I am still actively seeking the services of a real specialist so we can get to all of her needs now...if she needs an SSRI or whatever to help her get over the OCD behaviors, all new since July.
  13. What are the probiotics to use? And not to use? What are the dangers if you don't use probiotics?
  14. Has anyone tried treating on their own? Just wondering because it is taking forever for us to find a doctor nearby, or get an appointment with a PANDAS knowledgeable doctor anywhere within a day's drive...my 9 year old daughter had anti d naseB titres of 772 with overnight OCD. It was very scary, suicidal talk, etc. Our doctor prescribed amoxicillin for 10 days which really helped the OCD symptoms a great deal, but she is not out of the woods by any stretch. it is easy to get augmentin etc. online, and there is plenty of dosage info online as well...as a stop gap until we get help, would this be crazy? Because I'm not sure she can go to school in this state, and we absolutely cannot risk reinfection.
