  1. All Read a lot about coconut oil for external application. However also checked the ingredients and found that it has TBHQ. Most vegetable oils, I heard has TBHQ. Read this www.shreeadditives.com/htmlsite/5e.htm However, I vaguely remember having read in some of the posts in latitudes that we should AVOID BHT/TBHQ. How is TBHQ different from BHT and is TBHQ harmful for external application?? thanks
  2. Kim, http://www.cdc.gov/nip/recs/child-schedule.PDF Hope this helps.
  3. Chemar Chemar, can you please clarify to me on this if the ALA that you are talking about is the ALA that is found in flax oil. Because I have been giving flax oil for a long time, I am a bit concerned twhen I read that we should be cautious in giving that UNTIL we clear the other parts of the body of heavy metals. Please read this from DR mercola website SORRY FOR MY IGNORANCE AND WOULD APPRECIATE THE CLARIFICATION IF ALPHA LIPOIC ACID IS THE SAME AS ALPHA LINOLINIC ACID...

  5. Nancy I too give the same calcium citrate from nutricology (allergy research group) and magnesium taurate from cardiovascular research (bought from vitamin shoppe) for my son. Together, they seem to help a real lot. Nancy, are they gelatin capsules - Any idea if these companies make the same products in veggie caps too? Would appreciate your suggestions/inputs on this. I don't see any website for cardiovascular research (Ecological formula) .. Is this a reputed company?? thanks.
  6. Heather, In addition to my above post - Can you please tell me if the multivit that you give your son is Genestra SUPER ORTI VITE. The super orti vite genestra, is it a vegetarian capsule or a gelatin capsule? thanks.
  7. Chemar In addition to my above clarification reg. frequent bowel movements after starting pumpkin seeds, do they also help in detoxification or yeast elimination?? thanks
  8. Cut and paste from mercola's website Soy May Cause Cancer and Brain Damage Two senior US government scientists, Drs. Daniel Doerge and Daniel Sheehan, have revealed that chemicals in soy could increase the risk of breast cancer in women, brain damage in both men and women, and abnormalities in infants. The scientists decided to break ranks with colleagues in the FDA and oppose its decision last year to approve a health claim that soy reduced the risk of heart disease. They wrote an internal protest letter warning of 28 studies revealing toxic effects of soy, mostly focusing on chemicals in soy known as isoflavones, which have effects similar to the female hormone estrogen. They claim that research has shown a clear link between soy and the potential for adverse effects in humans. Soy may lead to health problems in animals including altering sexual development of fetuses and causing thyroid disorders. Some studies show that chemicals in soy may increase the chances of estrogen-dependent breast cancer. According to their letter: 'There is abundant evidence that some of the isoflavones found in soy demonstrate toxicity in estrogen sensitive tissues and in the thyroid.' 'During pregnancy in humans, isoflavones per se could be a risk factor for abnormal brain and reproductive tract development.' According to one of the scientists, parents who give their children soy milk or formulas "are exposing their children to chemicals which we know have adverse effects in animals. It's like doing a large uncontrolled and unmonitored experiment on infants.' The soy industry insists that the adverse effects seen in animals do not apply to humans. The Guardian August 13, 2000 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DR. MERCOLA'S COMMENT: As time goes on I suspect the real truth regarding soy will begin to emerge in even the traditional media. If my schedule ever opens up, I plan on promoting this message more widely and I have even reserved the domain www.nosoy.com. If you do not yet understand the reason why soy should not be considered a health food please review the following links: The ABC television news program 20/20 aired a feature story on June 8, 2000, on the dangers of soy. It was great to see some in the mainstream media finally picking up on this story. Besides the articles linked below, another good resource for information on the dangers of soy is The Weston A. Price Foundation, which has a goal to achieve a ban on the use of soy formula for infants.
  9. Jennifer Thanks for the info. Did you get the results of the fatty acid analysis test of your son. Claire good to note that you found a good doctor and the tests are in progress. How accurate are these tests as compared to our gut feelings? All A basic question. Are you all getting insurance coverage for all these tests, supplements etc. Does insurance generally not cover for these natural supplements even if a doctor recommends? My insurance company mentioned that they cover only specific supplements and invariably most of those medicines are from reputed companies BUT they have artificial stuff in their supplements. Any further info or views on this? thanks
  10. Jean Which B complex are you giving your son? Is it a NATURAL one free from colours etc. Which brand and was it prescribed by a doctor? How is your son's sniffing now?
  11. thanks. have you observed this sleep problem with lots of people with TS ?? or is it individual specific?
  12. read this in one of the letters in the latitudes site I would like to share two things that decrease my son’s tics. The first is a “stress ball.†He squeezes this small ball, which seems to help. It can be purchased in any drugstore. any idea on this ???anyone else has tried this?
  13. Chemar as regards this stmt "Candida albicans, the yeast parasite, is different from Brewers Yeast used in bread etc(which is actually very healthy)" Can you please let me know if the yeast in bread is healthy or have i understood it wrong?? I am stunned by the amount of knowledge that you have gathered with regard to nutrition, triggers etc. your son is too lucky to have you..
  14. Chemar, on and off, i give my son a drink called probiotic bifidus which contains skimmed milk, cream, invert sugar syrup, oligofructose, fruit juice concentrate, fruit sugar, grape sugar, vitamin and aroma.. its considered quite natural and healthy.. do you see any artificial sweeteners or flavours in this? Would wait for your input reg. fish oil/capsule .
  15. one more question. I guess its better to give fish oil along with the flax oil that I am giving my son. Which is better , fish oil or fish (omega ) capsules? Heard fish oil is not so pure and authentic all the time and hence capsules may be better? any views/suggestions on this please. since I am already giving flax oil, from convenience point of view , fish oil may be better since I need to just mix it with this oil and give...
  16. Chemar and Claire, Can you please let me know and explain about Candidla.. (to do with yeast?). what is that test basically? Also, want to know if yeast products can increase tics.(like bread, etc). Is it better to avoid yeast for tics? One more thing, did you all try out allergy test for tics? which is more authentic - blood allergy testing or the skin prick test? I had done a skin prick test for my son a couple of years ago. would the allergies remain the same or is a re-test necessary ??? If I need to post a question to Dr Robbins, what is the procedure? I tried to do that and it said "sorry" ... thanks

Hi Chemar good to see your response. I dont much understand what you mean by "We found hair analysis to be very informative and it certainly was very closely alligned with the blood tests we ran"... what did you run the blood tests for and what are they called? once i recv your input i can check with my pediatrician on the same and if required may try running those blood tests out. also you mentioned in your previous post that you had started your son on multivit since you were not much aware of supplements then ("he was on a multivit but i didnt know about the supps then") ) what are supplements and what are multivitamins? sorry for being ignorant about this. thanks for ur info on calcium supplement. would start floradix calcium/magnesium supplement soon. I remember Jennifer mentioning about this. Can you let me know what dosage is ideal and if floradix is pure and good so that I can start with that too. bye for now..
  18. new to this forum totally.. have the following clarifications.. 1) my 9.5 year old son who has been asthmatic (cough variant asthma) for many years shows TS symptoms since 6 months.. for the first three months he was shaking his head pretty frequently and now that is almost gone but he has started making some vocal sounds on and off like grunts and squeaks since two months.. the pitch of the sounds become high when he watches TV or when he reads a book or when he is in the bathroom... when he plays computer he does not have it.. have u come across trasient vocal tics?? why do the doctors say that for ts diagnosis one should have vocal tics too? thanks a ton to your forum, i am in the process of eliminating artificial stuff from his food. i know he has been allergic to milk since his asthma days but if i dont give him milk, yoghurt etc how will he get his calcium?? your advice on this please. can i give herbal tea? does that not contain caffeine? I have been giving flax oil 1 tspn twice a day since 3 months since I heard its very helpful. am i right? want to start him on a good multivitamin? does floradix company have a good multivitamin ideal for TS? HAve seen Chemar and Jennifer pretty active in this forum. Would appreciate your inputs on starting a good multivitamin with no artificial colours or flavours since I am new.. I obviously DO NOT want to follow the medication route and hence am asking for suggestions. thanks in advance for your patient replies. also when i saw feingold website, i understand that one has to avoid almonds, apples, oranges, peppers, chilli powder ,etc etc.. I follow a diet which is totally natural for my son without artificial stuff.. the people in the forum who follow feingold, do u also avoid the above mentioned natural food items.. I thought almonds are good in magnesium which is a good natural source for TS. any idea if Malt and aroma vanillin which is generally found in health drinks should be avoided too? thank you again. being new and anxious, would appreciate replies to all my questions .. read that TS generally is at its peak at age 10 whereas some say it peaks during adoloscence? also read vocal tics start at age 10 ....its contradicting.. from your experience what do you people feel? thanks in advance for your precious time.
