  1. Ok another question. I'm doing my best to limit sugar but my son is still getting it in his diet albeit in smaller amounts. Will we still be able to see some results or will we rain in the die off phase indertiminamtly due to the fact that he is still getting sugar and dairy?
  2. Ok yeah, things are crazy today. Wow. Need positive thoughts.
  3. We are not dairy free. i will try to get him to try the Kefir (he is a very difficult eater and does not like to try new things). We are currently on a probiotic that we take 3 times a day. I am trying to get him up to 50billion if I can. Its hard, I put it in yogurt, milk and his juice. I have lowered his sugar intake as much as I can and we are gluten and corn free so most of the things that yeast likes to live off of are already eliminated from our diet. However, he does get some sugar and the only vinegar he gets is in our Simple Life organic ketchup and I only give him a little bit 2x a week. I am trying my best but its SO HARD with a 5 year old that has eating issues to begin with. This poor kid has been through so much in the past 2 months diet wise and supplement wise and doctor/blood draw wise. I feel so bad for him. So I am trying to do the best that I can and hope we have some effect on his little system. I will need positive reinforcement through this die off period as I am scared and very easily worried that I am making his TS worse. I know I need to keep telling myself that I will need to battle through this period of time. Thankfully we have nothing going on next week - no camp, no nothing so we can just chill out and take the ride.
  4. No citrus allergies. And the GSE is pure. Got it at my natural health food store. I'm going slow with this because I don't want to overwhelm his system with toxins.
  5. Ok I may be crazy (that is completely possible) but last night and this morning his tics are increased, he is complaining of a hot forehead and he seems to be a little more hyper as well. My son is 5 and only 33lbs could it be entirely possible that after one dose of the GSE we are seeing die off? (praying its not a bad reaction to the GSE - I really want this to work and kill his yeast).
  6. Ok I gave him an Epsom salt bath tonight. When should I expect to see these symptoms if any? can it start right away or does it take some time?
  7. Ok Chemar - one more question. what should I expect as far as yeast die off is concerned? When does it happen, how long does it last and how bad will the tics get?
  8. Thanks for this!! i will be putting 3 drops in his morning OJ and 3 drops in his drink with lunch. That is what the recommended dosage is for kids 5 years and older. i feel better now.
  9. Thanks Chemar, it turns out that I have Grapefruit Seed Extract in the house. maybe I should try that first? Do you think this could be as effective?
  10. Our integrative physician feels it will be safe for him but now you have me all worried. I'm going to give her a call.
  11. Thanks for the info! I am going to give it a try and see how he handles it. If he has nausea I will stop and try something else.
  12. We saw our integrative physician today. She feels that we have enough information to believe that my son has candida. All the markers were there from his blood test. So she suggests we start Nystatin. Its given 4x daily for 8 weeks. Anyone have any experience with this and what I should look for? i am thinking of waiting a little while before I start the regimen to give his body sometime to normalize with all the other changes I have implemented.
  13. Right now we are on glutamine, probiotic, cod liver oil, NAC, and just started methyl B complex for his methylation dysfunction. We do HANDLE therapy which is not working IMO and we are gluten and corn free as best as we can be. How severe was your son at his worst?
  14. My son is back to severe at this point. 3 vocals and 2 motors every second it seems. I know the course is unpredictable but since he is only 5 and is not responding to any of the holistic treatments I am trying does this mean nothing will work? Should I expect that he will get worse over time? Are we looking at debilitating tourettes down the road?
  15. We have been on the TS boards and doing holistic therapy with our son who is 5 and has had a severe onset of tics in May. Before that his tics were pretty mild and would go away for weeks or months at a time. Then in March his vocals came back and in May they got SEVERE. Many vocals and many motors all at once and constantly throughout the day. No relief. We got a TS diagnosis from the neuro and he wanted to start him on clonidine. We decided to wait and try the holistic approach. We see Dr. Bhatia in Atlanta. She did tons of testing. he is allergic to gluten and corn He has poor methylation mito dysfunction poor detoxification on paper this looks like the picture of Autism (according to what DAN! doctors see) but my son is not on the ASD spectrum at all. Just TS and OCD. Could this be a case of PANDAS? If so does anyone know where i can find a doctor in the Atlanta area to treat him? Also, what outcome is better - kids with TS or PANDAS? i have heard that the tics can go away comepletely with the right treatment for PANDAS - is this true? thanks Cara
  16. My son is on NAC and things are going well. We've been at the pool almost everyday since Memorial Day. Sometimes we get home and he sits in his swim trunks longer than he should. He has developed some red and white head pimples between his anus and scrotum. I think it's yeast. Here is the question: is the NAC exacerbating yeast in his system and its coming out or is it from the bathing suit? I will take him to his pediatrician to try and get an anti fungal cream either way.
  17. When my son is upset or crying he never tics....weird right?
  18. I should and will get him tested for PANDAS. He has not been tic free since march though and honestly what I thought were tic free periods may have not been. It's just that I didn't notice what he was doing. Once I figured out it was TS (march) it all became clear that everything he was doing was probably a tic. Especially the less than obvious ones. However, once I realized it was TS and embarked on my holistic path, everything got worse. That is until I started NAC. NAC has brought his tics back to being relatively mild to the outside person. But yes, I need to rule out pandas.
  19. Do you think I can really figure this out? I am feeling so overwhelmed and scared. I haven't been on this journey for very long but i have learned a lot in this short period of time. Did you finally figure it out for your kids?
  20. Did you do all your testing through 13 and me? Is it just saliva? No blood tests?
  21. So because he is having methylation dysfunction does that mean has absultely has a gene mutation?
  22. So funny. Tv and iPad don't increase tics for us either. Excitement does though and anxiety.
  23. Popping over from the TS board. my son is 5, started ticcing around 3 or so. It was very mild with periods of no tics for months. This past May things reached a severe level with a screaming tic and multiple motor and vocals all at once. We started on a holistic path with an integrative doctor. So far we have had allergy testing and he is intolerant to corn and gluten. We removed those as much as we can from his diet. he is 100% gluten free and 80% corn free. We give glutamine for the gut, probiotic, cod liver oil and NAC 1200mgs a day. once we started the NAC (3 weeks ago) we saw a steady decline in his tics. The screaming went away and we were left with some motors. My son also has OCD and pics his cuticles and grinds his teeth. Those were still present but overall we were seeing great improvement. Just a lessening of the intensity and frequency of the tics. Yesterday I got his nutraEval test back which showed, mitochondrial and methylation dysfunction (markers for it), possible candida (markers for it), low seratonin, low antioxidants, borderline iron and low B12. The doctor wants us to add Vitamin E (as a cream), methylated B complex (B1, B2, B3, B6, B7, B9 and B12), iron glycinate liquid and 5-HTP. Since I had the 5-HTP at home already I started that first last night. Today tics were worse and screaming was back! AHHH I am afriad to give it to him again tonight. Should I just get the methyl complex going first? Maybe he needs better methylation before being able to handle the seratonin? i know his body needs it - why would it increase the tics? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Cara
  24. Since we found out that his seratonin was low we started 5-HTP last night and his tics are increased today and the screaming is back! After all the progress with the NAC too!! Wondering if I should stop the 5-HTP and give it some time and start the MB12 that our doctor is recommending for the methlyation issue. maybe he needs to be able to methylate before he can handle the seratonin? Any thoughts on this? I know sometimes you need to give it a couple of days before you can see results but if the tics increased directly after giving him the 5-HTP, I worry that it will only get worse.
