  1. Thank you for all these great responses. The amount of experience and knowledge in this board puts to shame any doctor. I was watching my son play, tic free, this morning and thinking that maybe this was the worst? I don't know and will certainly be vigilant but am feeling positive. I have also noticed that many pandas kids seem very smart. Maybe the parents here are specially involved and that extends to academics. I have 2 daughters who have not exhibited any pandas symptoms but I notice that they tend to affect siblings too so I am watching them carefully too. Do any parents here suspect that they themselves had pandas growing up? I suspect my brother might have. Finally, I have been using Anatabloc for my son which is supposed to be a natural anti inflammatory that does not affect the stomach. It works quickly and perfectly in stopping the tics but I was hoping to hear if anyone here uses it too as I can't find anything anywhere about possible side effects. When something is too good to be true...
  2. Are there any PANDAS kids out there that have outgrown their symptoms? That are in school getting good grades and thriving and living happily amongst the non-PANDA world? Are there mild cases of PANDAS or can a mild case turn into a bad one? My son got caught very early and treated and now just has some vocal tics but I am in fear that "the next one" could be worse. Any happy stories out there? Love to all fellow Panda parents
  3. Mmm.... Every doctor I have consulted with strongly recommends probiotics when using antibiotics. I think 2 mg is too much. My son was on 1/4 that. Also, Ibuprofen works great but can cause stomach bleeding so use it for short periods of time and try to eliminate inflammatory triggers from his diet (sugar is my son's). I have also been experimenting with natural anti inflammatories. There are many suggestions in this board; arnica, curcumim, omega oils...
  4. We meet with Dr. T but would love to have an expert closer by. Are there any fellow NY parents on? I would love to meet some in person.
  5. Hi everyone, I took my son off antibiotics for the break to let his system breathe. He has been doing great and I have been giving him Curmerin, OLE and probiotics. I have also used very successfully Anatabloc which stops the tics in its tracks but I cannot find much about possible side effects so I am being careful with that. He is doing great and his tics only surface after meals. Has anyone encountered this? I think that sugar is a big trigger for him so i am trying to cut it out as much as i can. Other than that, I am going to keep experimenting with natural remedies (I just read about arnica here) to keep the inflammation down and pray he does not get strep again. Am I being crazy and should keep him in antibiotics instead? Any thoughts appreciated. Good luck to all fellow pandas families!
  6. I was wondering if anyone has used Antabloc as an alternative to Motrin with (hopefully) less side effects?
  7. One more question. Are there any dangers of IVig? i.e. tainted plasma?
  8. I cannot thank you enough for these answers. I do have a Pandas specialist that I love but there is no substitute for personal experiences. I also forgot to mention that I am riddled with strep myself and that my brother, as a kid, was a Tic mess which he outgrew in college. I would bet money that he had Pandas too.
  9. Hi everyone, I am so happy to have found this board! Maybe you can help me with some of my questions. My normally very happy and relaxed 10 yo son started developing strong (and loud tics), anxious behavior and distraction at school this last September. His GP took a strep test and it came positive and put him on Augmentin. She referred me to a specialist who took a blood test and concluded that he not only had strep but also a very elevated count of Mycoplasma. He was put on 2 different antibiotics and is now on prophylactic Augmentin. His behavior has normalized except for the tics which, although very improved, are still there. When he is having a bad day I give him Motrin and they go away. These are my questions. Are there any natural anti inflammatories that will not affect his liver or stomach as Motrin would? Should all this PANDAS go away when he hits puberty? Can I expect this symptoms to wax and wane or should I be prepared for them to get a lot worse? Have people who have done steroids gotten lasting results? How about IVig? Finally, I have also been given my son Magnesium. He seems is a skinny kid but seems to have gained weight. Could it be the antibiotics? I am new at this and, while I am alarmed I am so pleased that he is doing so much better than he was. I know, a lot of questions. Any help or insight hugely appreciated about any of them. Thank you
