PANDASmcnuggetsw/fry/coke Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 We just received our results for dd 12. She is DOUBLE positive for band 41 kDa and positive for 58 kDa~ both Western Blot. Can anyone tell me what this means? Thanks! PANDAS McNuggets w/fry/coke
P_Mom Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 (edited) 58kDa is unknown.....band 41 ia also non specific to Lyme (even Dr. Jones tells his patients it is of no consequence)....I say you have a pretty clear NEGATIVE Lyme result. Edited September 8, 2010 by P.Mom
PANDASmcnuggetsw/fry/coke Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 She was positve for 58, not 59. Does that change anything? Or maybe you hit a typo and meant 58? Tahnks so much!
KeithandElizabeth Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Were the results the same for IGG and IGM? Elizabeth
P_Mom Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Sorry...meant 58.. That is a negative result PMfry and coke.....even with IGENEX! Please don't let others make you believe otherwise!
PANDASmcnuggetsw/fry/coke Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 P.Mom, Thank you soo much. Another piece of the puzzle eliminated! :-)
PANDASmcnuggetsw/fry/coke Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 Also, now she can do a tapered burst and I don't have to worry that it's harming her more if she had lymes!
P_Mom Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 (edited) Yea! Nice, huh! I would do the taper with a peaceful mind! It may get bumpier the first couple days...MAY...but then, after a bit, a different child can emerge! Edited September 8, 2010 by P.Mom
PANDASmcnuggetsw/fry/coke Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 Oh that would be a beautiful thing!!!
PacificMama Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Pandas, Just to clarify, you would have been given 2 sets of results: one for IGG and one for IGM. They appear on two different pages (or that's how ours come). Did you get these same results for both igg and igm?
PANDASmcnuggetsw/fry/coke Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 I don't know if IGG and IGM are the same b/c hubby has it at his office. It was just faxed over finally. Why is this significant? I'm waiting for him to call me to tell me. In the meantime, someone posted on the lyme board..... Both of those positive bands can be indicative of lyme. However, they are not incredibly specific for just lyme, as compared to some other bands, such as bands 31, 34, and 39. Band 41 is the least specific out there, indicating something with a flagella (tail). I read band 58 indicates "heat shock protein", but do not know what that means. It does indicate some infection-related issues which may be lyme or may not be lyme. Sorry, but this is the problem with these tests, they are often not that definitive. Hopefully you have an appointment with a lyme doctor coming up where you can get guidance from a doctor looking at these test results and also other factors (like symptoms).

Yes, it's significant to know both results. The IGM result is an early response to the infection. The IGG response comes later. As to Michael's comments, he's correct in that it is best for you to have any result interpreted by a lyme expert, as it will be viewed in conjunction with symptoms. Which is really the most important thing. In my opinion, I would not make hard and fast treatment decisions until this time. Can't remember, are you already lined up waiting for an appointment with llmd?
P_Mom Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 PMfry coke....it is negative. And, it is important to make hard and fast decisions when dealing with PANDAS...earlier treatment to bring down brain inflammation...the better. I don't see what difference IGG or IGM would make...either would be negative because both band are not lyme specific....she actually had no specific bands. Or, is there a suggestion that she got the Lyme test drawn during that small time frame where after 4 weeks the IGM can be transitioning to IGG.....or that it was drawn in the small time frame where not all the IGM bands showed up?
PANDASmcnuggetsw/fry/coke Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 Yikes. It was tomorrow and I just canceled it b/c I thought we were negative. Ok here is what I have: IGG IGM 41 ++ (double positive) 31 indeterminate (IND) 58 + 41 + 83-93 IND What does this mean? Thanks!!!
PANDASmcnuggetsw/fry/coke Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 Ok my columns got scrambled when I posted so I'll try it this way..... IGG 41 ++ (double positive) 58 + IGM 31 indeterminate (IND) 41 + 83-93 IND So they are not the same...what does that say then? THANKS!
