Cunningham study

We've just been invited to join the Cunningham study and I'm wondering how everyone went about getting the blood drawn and prepped for shipment? Were you able to go to a commercial lab and have them do it without a doctor's orders? We live in central Texas and there is a lab called "Clinical Pathology Labs." Has anyone had luck with them? My mom is a clinical lab manager, but she lives 800 miles away!

 

I am eager to get the results. We have an appt with a neurologist coming up in early October and I want all the information ready and waiting! So far all we have are ALL the symptoms and positive strep titers (with no known strep infection.)

Just know exactly what you need for your lab before you drag your kid in there. Probably shouldn't scedule any other tests for same time. I would call and or bring the kit to the lab you plan to use to make sure you have everything needed with you before you go in with your child.

 

We needed:

An Order from Dr C. (which she faxed, it wasn't in the kit)

An Order from a California Doctor

to arrive before 11:00 Monday-Thursday (not done on Friday - no one to accept the blood)

Check if other bloodwork to be done at same time excedes limit for child's weight.

[We've had blood drawn several times from Quest Diagnostics. They have never given us trouble. All we needed was the paperwork from Cunningham that showed my boys were part of a study. They even spun it. One time, we had a tiny bit of trouble, and I offered to pay them. They didn't know how to do that privately, so they just drew the blood. We packaged it up the way she said to do it (make sure your ice packs are really frozen, and I took it all with me, plus packing tape. I took it straight to Fed Ex after the draw, and sent it back immediately.

We've had a similar experience at Labcorp. We've been there so many times we are on a first name basis with the technician. My husband took ds that day and offered to pay, but she didn't know how to "process" that, and she just did it, no charge. She was very nice, thanks Kelly

Other than that, you could ask at your pediatrician's office. They do draws at our pediatrician's, and I think they would have helped if we asked.

It's only 2 tubes, so it shouldn't be too much of a big deal.

Thanks, everyone! Labcorp was great--they didn't charge us either. We sent the sample off on Monday this week. I hate to be impatient, but I can't wait to get the results. How long did it take for others to get their results back? We have a doc appt with a neurologist at the end of the month, and I want to have all my ducks in a row before then.

Cam K took 2 weeks for us. The antineuronal numbers were about 3 weeks AFTER that.
