Guest
So do you just not eat out or are there certain restraunts that have food without preservatives & additives?
Claire
Carolyn, You can get online and look at ingredients for the fast food places. And even call them and they will tell you the exact ingredients. We have Good Earth and Whole Foods. For sure Whole Foods avoids preservatives. I am not sure if they look at secondary sources as Feingold does (e.g. palminate may or may not have a preservative in it they don't know about), but I personally don't worry about it. Some people it may matter, and I can't speak for them. They have a deli and great soups. Unfortunately, most soups have cream or wheat, which limits me, but I can usually find one. By the way, since I stopped milk for the casein months ago, I developed lactose intolerance too, on those rare occasions that I cheat. How odd. You could call Good earth, but I think the philosophy is the same. We have Mexican restaurants that advertise only fresh ingredients are used. You would just need to call a restaurant you like. If you are having veggies and a meat dish, you may well be okay. We don't go out that often, more for financial and convenience reasons, but occasionally we do. We did used to do a fair amount of fast food and those days are long gone--actually that stopped with the wheat issue. Carolyn, you haven't commented: Are you doing better since the food elimination? Guest Jeff
Carolyn, We just don't go out very often anymore. Feingold does publish a "Fast Food" guide every year. They research several of the more common FF restaurants, and list all the foods that are okay. In most cases, it's more trouble than it's worth - the meat might be okay, but the bun is not, or the cheese is not, and the fries are not, but the Coke is..., etc. We go out maybe once every couple of months.... Like someone else mentioned, it's also expensive for a family of four to go out to eat, so I'm glad we're not spending money there. It helps, since the cost of "natural" foods is higher than the processed stuff... Jeff
Guest
We only have tiny health food stores here and they don't really have much of a deli or anything. Yes, I am doing better since the food elimination. I notice the tics increase when I eat the foods I'm allergic to. The tics that I notice to be effected mostly by foods I'm allergic to are the sniffling tic and eye blinking. I think I'm going to do a rotation diet though because I've been trying to eat things that I'm not allergic to and cutting the foods that I'm allergic to down, but I don't like a lot of foods to begin with. The only foods that I like that I'm not allergic to are beef, pork, turkey, greenbeans, apples, and potatoes. I think I made my self allergic to potatoes though cause I started eating them more. I've began to crave them and craving potatoes is not like me. Just a guess on that one because I don't know why else I would start to crave potatoes since this just started not too long ago. Claire
I know what you mean. My son craves potatoes now. But it could just be the carbs that your body needs, e.g. the comfort food. Try rotation--you will know soon enough if it works. Must be 4 days in between though.
