peglem Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Hi- I'm just wondering - for those who have dealt with it: When your child was already on abx daily, and then they got strep - - did you add an additional antibiotic (say, 10-day short course) on top of your current daily abx? Or, did you stop your daily abx - give a 10-day short course for the infection - and then go back to your daily abx again? I just am wondering what the general concensus is on dealing with this when it happens? I tried using the search function, as I know I've read about this on the forum before - but I could not find the info. Thanks!! Karen We did a 10 day course of rifampin/augmentin, then returned to a higher dose prophylactic (zith). It makes sense to me to hange the prophylaxis as well, because if it was doing what its supposed to you wouldn't have gotten strep.
airial95 Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Our Dr. did an injection of roceferin (sp?) and a 10 day course of full strentgh omnicef. Then we dropped back to our prophylactic dose of azith. We saw a significant decrease in his PANDAS symptoms with the change, but it took a couple of weeks for us to get back to the point we were at prior to getting the infection (we were still dealing with residual OCD prior to the infection.)
