melanie Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Hi The 1st time I heard that side effects meant that it worked better was today.I think thats a DR K thing, but Im not sure.We are having side effects this time and havent had them in the past.Your doing 2g right? I think everyone is different.Dont panic ,hes feeling good, thats great.Headaches and vomiting isnt good no matter what.and think what did you differently this toime ?? Melanie
tapiash Posted August 8, 2010 Author Report Posted August 8, 2010 You are right, headache and vomitting is never fun.I was mentally prepared for this morning and my son came in yelling, idont have a headache. The only thing I did diferntly was I gave him Tylenol instead of ibuprofen because that's all I. I have come to realize I never will truly be prepared. Pandas is so unpredictable
peglem Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 My daughter had bad side effects from her 1st 2 IVIGs- which were very low dose. The last four, at a higher dose have not presented w/ any SEs.
tapiash Posted August 9, 2010 Author Report Posted August 9, 2010 That is interesting. We have had 2 high dose. The one yesterday was 6 hrs. The first one was 4. That's it,one was slower. Melanie, that's what was diferent. Woult that make a differance?
Suzan Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Our first was very low dose, .4g/kg. After we got home, she had headache, stomachache and lots of leg pain. I did notice improvement for a while even at this low dose. 2nd IVIG was .75g/kg and she did not have any side effects after we got home although we did have to slow it down at the hospital for a bit because she got a headache. 2nd one was much easier for her even though it was a higher dose. BUT, it didn't seem to do anything for her. We go on Friday for her 3rd, this one is 1g/kg. I'm worried about it all around. I hope that it really means nothing for your ds and it is working and you just got lucky and had an easier time of it! Susan
tapiash Posted August 9, 2010 Author Report Posted August 9, 2010 Oh susan, I hope so. I have had the summer off and I go back Wednesday. He goes back the following week. I'm worry so much about him
momaine Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 the slower drip can definitely lessen side effects. also, being dydrated lowers the chance of side effects. My dd got iv fluids with her ivig, I also put the liquids to her, she got benedryl, motrin, and prednisone and seh had no side effects but is definitley much improved 7 weeks post ivig. going for round two middle of next week. Hoping for even more improvements after round 2.
nevergiveup Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 Less side effects are better for my dd. If ur child gets a fever it will only stir up the immune system and potentially make panda symptoms worse. My dd gets monthly ivig, she has less Pandas symptoms and does better all month if she has a symptom free ivig. With a fever it just sets her back for weeks with her Pandas.(Just like any other fever she has ever gotten with or without ivig) I do not think turning back of the pages is necessarily a good thing. Just my opinion. Slow infusions and lots of hydration can prevent an immune response(fever) from ivig.
