Food Allergy Results

Recommended Posts

I recently got allergy testing done for delayed food allergies (ones that occur 2 hours to 2 weeks after exposure to the food). I just thought I would post my results for anyone interested. I never realized I am allergic to so many foods and I haven't even done the testing for immediate reactions yet.

I'm allergic to all cow dairy products, walnuts, pentachlorophenol, pistachio, cauliflower, silver, currant, sage, spinach, benzyl acetate, grape/raisin, red, carob, barley, polysorbate 60.

I don't eat walnuts by themselves, but there in deserts, cakes, icecreams, and other processed foods. Pentachlorophenol is in indoor and outdoor air, food, drinking water, wood. Currant is in fruit sweeteners and natural fruit flavorings. Pistachio is in desserts, cakes, trail mixes, and other processed foods. Sage is in certain processed and ready to eat foods. Carob is in candies and baked goods as a chocolate subsitiute, ice cream. Silver is in mirrors, etc., teeth fillings, jewelry. Benzyl Acetate is in beverages, ice creams, ices, candy. Polysorbate 60 is a food additive found in whipped toppings, artificial chocolate, cakes, doughnuts, baker products, and some poor quality vitamins.

Thats a hard list of stuff to avoid! Best of luck.

Let us know if you feel better once you are minimizing the exposure to these things.

Ausclare,

Analytical Research Labs www.arlaus.com.au do a similar test, only for 40 or 93 foods, not for all the other stuff. I believe york allergy testing does a more comprehensive test, but from memory it was in the realm of $600 - $800. I could be wrong, because it was a long time ago I looked, but I remember it was huge.

I had the 40 foods one done from ARL for my son, and it cost about $240, of which medicare payed some. We are now in the realm of getting 80% of expenses back due to the family inniative the Howard Govt brough in for medical expenses once you reach over $300 out of pocket, so before the year is out, I am doing all the tests I want done, so we get maximum rebate.

You need a doctors signature to get these tests done, and to get the medicare rebate. Most naturapaths can order these tests as well, but no medicare rebate.

The other day you asked about testing for methylation - I don't know how to get this done here in Australia. I am assuming this is an issue, due to symptoms, but it may not be, as I can't confirm it by testing. I don't know whether the liver detox profile will shed any light on this one.

Hi Carolyn,

You and I have very similar food sensitivities. I too am sensitive to only some of the artificial ingredients, but avoid them all anyway. The BIGGIES are all milk products and the barley. Barley is in almost every packaged product with wheat (crackers, cookies, breads). However, bakeries don't usually use it, fortunately.

Like me, you are a good candidate for the enzyme for gluten/casein--the ones that contain DDPIV, (Houston and Klaire make them). Even though we can have wheat, barley has gluten.

I did abstinence for a long time and now will test reintroduction with the enzymes. As with the TV situation, with foods I think it is best to eliminate completely to see how you feel, and then test it with alternatives (LCD for TV, enzymes with the foods--or even the rotation diet they recommend).

I definitely felt better. Good luck to you with this process.

Claire

ps If you have questions, you can call Elissact directly and make a phone appointment re your results. I did this and they were great.
