Phasmid Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 yes, young docs can be a good thing! My boy's gastroenterologist hadn't heard about PANDAS, and didn't ever run into a case of TS or tics, or neurologic involvement that may be associated with gut infections. He did say, however, that he wouldn't doubt such a connection since there is a huge gut-brain connection, and many toxins can travel directly to the brain via the vagus nerve which innervates the gut. I am not sure if this is my son's case, or if this situation with him just confounded the strep infection. He did have a probable (very severe) strep infection couple months before his most severe epidsode. He was seen in the hospital. The docs couldn't confirm it, though, but they suspected it. Throat culture, (when they finally got around to do it!) was after he had already started antibiotic. GI appt on Wednesday- adding to my medical folder that travels with me!! I thin my Drs are all young enough that they are willing to learn with me! If not we will find ones that will! THANKS! Brandy
