matis_mom Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 Ok, just got call from doc. ASO:237 I did go and get myself checked about three times lately, always negative. He kept saying, "You don't have strep." Last time I asked to have titers checked. The nurse called today with the results and said dr. wanted to put me on Amoxicillin for 10 days as a precaution. I don't think that will cut it. I don't know where the strep is coming from either. I have the feeling it's in my sinuses or ears, as any time I get a cold all this disgusting green stuff comes out, and my ears start bothering me. Anyway, I got to run now, but what do you all think would be strong enough, yet gentle enough considering I am nursing a 4-month old baby?
EAMom Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 I'm not sure about your antibiotic question (I think Amoxcillinis considered safe, maybe the stronger abs less so)...but maybe it would be a good idea to give your baby probiotics if you are on antibiotics. I'm assuming there are probiotics that are safe to give a 4mo. old?
thereishope Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 Babies can take probiotics. As for what antibiotics is safe for a nursing mom, do you have a lactation consultant or OBGYN you can contact? You could always express the milk while you are on abs and give the baby either frozen breast milk or formula for the time being. If you do not want to use a bottle, again, contact a lactation consultant and there are ways to feed a baby that is not a bottle. They will supply you with what you need.

While I was nurseing and became sick my doctor gave me the Z-pack which is Azithromycin I'm allergic to Amoxicillin so that wasn't even an opption for me.. So I don't know if that is safe while nurseing or not.
