My son had a horrible week at home and school last week. Coincidentally, there was a case of strep at school and home. I have sinced treated my bacterial infection and his behaviors are better. When a child with PANDAS is not infected but he/she is exposed to someone who is and responds negatively, how long does this exasberation last? I know it varies with kids but I'm just taking a poll. Andrea-

My daughter reacts to strep in the classroom. Usually, once the exposure is over (kid is diagnosed and absent/treated), she will be back to baseline after a couple of days.

I do have to say, that she had a really rough winter with nonstop, heavy exposure at school. Her irritibility, and ocd ramped up (not like an exacerbation, but definately and uptick) and just would not go away. This lasted a few weeks, and then we put her on a steroid burst- and that has calmed everything down.

Good luck!

I hate strep!

DON"T even mention sore or scratchy throat around me- or I completely panic :D

Our son has had exposure exacerbations twice in the last couple of months. We were nervous because he seemed to switch so quickly that we thought we were in for a long ride back to where he was pre-exposure. But we were really shocked that both times it was only 2-3 days and then he improved significatnly!

Like the others, DS only shows symptoms for a few days. The last time his brother had strep things were pretty bad for maybe 5 days. I think it was longer than 2-3 because strep was going around so he was exposed to more than just his brother over the week. He may have had it himself, since he is pretty asymptomatic, but I don't think so considering how quickly he improved compared to the last time he was actually ill himself.
