bgbarnes Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 One down more to go- got my ASO titers back- under 100 so I am not a carrier- I was convinced I would be because I had strep a LOT as a kid. Now if I could only get my son's results back!!
JAG10 Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 In reading Buster's invasion/colonization post, I think it means a carrier swabs positive (on the surface) but is not actually infected (ASO wnl). So, as long as you didn't swab positive, you are not a carrier. But a normal ASO by itself does not indicate you are or are not a carrier. You need the positive swab w/o the rise in ASO. .......i think Buster, do carriers consistently swab positive over and over? peglem Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Buster, do carriers consistently swab positive over and over? My carrier had tons of positive swabs, but low titers, and no symptoms of infection.
Buster Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Actually, if you tended to get strep, you probably aren't a carrier. Usually a carrier is asymptomatic and does not have an immune reaction to strep. Also, ASO has to be taken within 4 weeks of a likely strep infection or it's value is not well understood. The fall rate of ASO is not studied. Buster One down more to go- got my ASO titers back- under 100 so I am not a carrier- I was convinced I would be because I had strep a LOT as a kid. I actually have a raging sinus infection ( probably going on well over a month but finally treated this week) because ds was getting diagnosed with Pandas- I felt like I was the last thing I needed to take care of so I let it go way to long- and have been on abx since the dr appt anyway and I was beginning to wonder if my sinus infection was strep......the throat culture was negative too. So now I know I am not hurting him- it is amazing what our minds will do to us- I ran my daughter to get a strep test yesterday b/c she said she had a sore throat and since ds had it 2 times in 6 weeks- you never know- hers was negative too ( did not test for ASO on her).
