sf_mom Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 (edited) My older son had floaters which is associated with uveitis and my younger son 'who was diagnosed with Kawasaki's' had the redness. It was ongoing since Kawasaki's in 2007 for our younger son. We have him on antibiotics and high dose probiotics, etc. and its resolved within the last month. ALL our kids were exposed to ARF and shortly thereafter our children took ill, one with Kawasaki's, many believe Kawasaki's to be strep related so I think its very possible. Do you remember was there a 'pink eye' both eyes event around the time of diagnoses? Or, was there a high fever for extended period perhaps followed by mouth sores or chapped lips? Many Dr.s miss Kawasaki's due to lag of symptoms or they just aren't very knowledgeable in the disease. -Wendy We have never found a cause for our children's uveitis (white blood cells attack the eyes), and we have tested for nearly everything. We were told that the cause may surface a few years down the line. It has been a few years. Our daughters old labs do show that she previously had strep, but no one mentioned it. That would be expected since it was not active at the time. I can't help but wonder if there is a connection. Both my kids were diagnosed with uveitis at the same time. It was acknowledged that an unknown infection could have triggered it. Our daughter was just diagnosed with PANDAS, and her uveitis is acting very odd. There is old documentation/ studies suggesting that in theory strep can cause uveitis. May Edited April 12, 2010 by SF Mom

sf_mom Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 (edited) Our children got sick after being exposed to ARF in 2007, one undiagnosed, one hospitalized at the time and diagnosed with Kawasaki's (not checked for ARF due to type of heart damage). The 'uveitis' or what appears to be unveitis has lingered ever since in our younger child. Our older child, has complained of floaters six months post his illness/exposure to ARF and since onset of first TIC. The redness has resolved and I do attribute that to the antibiotics. He has been on azithromycin since November and his eyes just started resolving in the last month. He is too young to complain of any other symptoms... almost 3. Our older son, hasn't complained much about the floaters since his last IVIG. I just asked him if he stills see them and he says not so much. Hopefully that gives you a little better perspective. In our case, I do think it was all related to a strep illness and as they get better it gets better. -Wendy Edited April 12, 2010 by SF Mom
