peglem Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 If you want to find out if he has it now- you'll need to swab.(rapid and culture). The blood test cannot tell you if you have a current infection.
Worried_Dad Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 But if the swab/culture are negative, consider the blood work. My throat cultures were always negative... but my ASO titer turned out to be 303. http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?...amp;#entry60494 If you want to find out if he has it now- you'll need to swab.(rapid and culture). thereishope Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 First, let's just hope it's a dry throat or a virus causing the sore throat! Go to the dr and get a rapid done. Rapid +....start antibiotics for him and go onto getting family members tested too. If rapid is negative, make sure they send another swab sample out to be cultured. You could ask that they give antibiotics while waiting for the culture result. It depends on the dr if they will do this. If culture comes back +...start antibiotics for him and go onto getting family members tested too. If culture comes back negative, move onto blood tests. If anyone in the house tests +, they need to go for a follow up strep test (following steps above) 3 weeks after finishing all antibiotics. Also, you think you don't get sick. You can have strep and not get symptoms. You would need to get tested too.
