Seen another child

This is crazy but I went to ds music class today for parents day. Right away I noticed this little girl with her face all red. I was thinking eczema ( I have a niece you had this bad). I know I have gotten way more observant lately but anyway as I was watching her I seen her licking her lips, rubbing her face on her arms and doing alot of nose/face movements. I almost fell off my chair!! I could not believe I was seeing another child with tics!! This is exactly what my son went through this past fall. But her poor face looked so much worse. The saddest part was that she was wearing this heavy knitted sweater and I was so ready to rip it off hear because it must hurt to rub her face on it. Crazy me was tryng to spot out her mother. This is sad to say but they both looked like they were not that well off meaning money might be an issue which really almost brought me to tears. I felt like I just wanted to tell her mom everything I knew but couldn't. I then heard her mom tellling her that needs needs to stop or the pain and reddness won't go away and I felt like I was hearing myself so many months ago when I was clueless. I so wish I could help this little girl but their is no way I can!! I then look at my son and have a smile on my face because I know that I am helping and will be forever thanks to everyone here!!!! It's still killing me because I can't stop thinking of her and wondering if her parents have a clue. I will have to pray for her tonight.

I had to laugh b/c my son is the one who sees other people's tics before I do these days. One day he came home from a tennis tournament and he was doing this pursing of his lips and I asked him what was up with that? He says, "Jeremy has tics, too, and this is one he says he does sometimes." My son said this was a fun one. Every once in a while I still see him do it but he can stop doing it so it's more of habit than a tic for him.

Anyway, I never noticed that this boy had tics but now I see them. He blinks his eyes, swishes his hair side to side, and I've seen a mild lip/jaw movement. I haven't spoken to his parents. Not sure if I ever will. Quite frankly, I've seen a LOT of kids and adults who tic and all of them seem pretty well-adjusted and not bothered by their tics. Not everyone sees tics as something that NEEDS fixing right away. Some kids just have tics, others have tic disorders along with co-morbid conditions(like us), and others have tics due to ADHD meds. I guess it's hard to figure out if there really is a problem that needs addressing. If my son only had tics I'd probably just wait it out and see how they progress as he gets into his teen years, but b/c of his anxiety and sensory issues I feel there is something that needs assistance and I like problem solving.

If you overheard the other mother speaking to her daughter about the red lips, you could have interjected and said, "My son did something similar(or had a similar problem) and I found that chamomile tea bags soaked in warm water and used as a compress can be of great relief. That might open up the conversation or not, but you may feel better that you could at least lend some advice.

Thanks for the reply

But yeah I notice everything now. I was driving a couple of weeks ago and noticed a man crossing the street on his cell phone. As I am watching him for no apparent reason, just waiting for the lights I notice his eyes blinking and all of a sudden I'm like oh my he has tics!! I keep watching him and keep seeing the eye blinking and am ready to pull over or crash!! Crazy but I never really paid attention till now and it's not like I am on the lookout or anything. I guess it's more like it's not just us and there are other people out there with it. To read about it and actually see it is kind of strange to me because I never ever noticed before. I am like a radar now. Yes I though about saying something but then I though my son would just die if he knew or if the girl mentioned something to him. He still does not know what he has is tics so that would cause more problems here that I don't need that right now, we have enough to deal with as is. I was thinking more that I would tell her I knew someone in the same situation and go with that.
