purpleflowers Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 I AM NEW HERE AND WOULD LIKE TO DIRECT THIS QUESTION TO ANYONE OUT THERE WHO CAN MAYBE HELP. I WAS ORIGINALLY SENDING THIS TO SOEMONE IS PARTICULAR BUT FIGURED OUT HOW TO POST FOR EVERYONE TO SEE Hi there, I am new to this forum and have a ? My Dr has ordered a test through this place called Igenex for Lyme.I was wondering about an old test I had done through i think Labcorp.....it was I thin called westen blot or something.Anyhow it was all saying negative but on one part it said band 41 positive.Does this sound liek a possible trigger for my Dr to order Igenex? I mean I think he doesnt want me to panic but when I asked him what that band 41 positive means....he hesitated and said it means nothing....but he looked like he was trying to hesitate alot. From your knowledge and Im brand new does that sound a little iffy? I know these tests are not accurate through Labcorp or Quest and stuff unless your really bad off with Lyme.Igenex is more accurate.I am worried that It reported (through Labcorp Band 41 Positive) IT DOESNT SOUND GOOD TO ME......what do u think? Thanks

Thanks Hi. My first thought is don't panic! I have heard on this forum somewhere that 40% (or something like that) of the population will show positive for band 41 (someone correct me if I have that number wrong). But, maybe your doc is seeing a trend, like we've been seeing here, that if you do have band 41, that further testing is warranted, just to be sure to check everything. I am glad you are getting the igenex test though. Please keep us posted. I plan on getting the blood drawn on Monday for my dd. We have not had any lyme testing done yet. Susan
MichaelTampa Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 My impression is that band 41 is a bit on the controversial side. Some lyme doctors will treat as lyme with just a band 41 positive if lyme symptoms are there. I googled it recently, one doctor reports 97% of patients improve when he does that, so he does it. For all these patients, maybe it is lyme, maybe it isn't, maybe it's just something else that gets helped by the lyme treatments. The key is if the symptoms are there or not. I just tested for 41 positive and 39 inconclusive, and the more I read, the more I am quite sure I do have lyme with bartonella (along with the PANDAS, which has been in treatment for a month and a half.
