zazuk2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Ds 5 started on 250mg liquid zith 4 days ago. Tonight was 4th dose. He was scratching all over in his sleep. No skin blotches that I can see just scratch marks left all over. I woke him and gave him some benadryl and he told me his whole body itches. Could this be a reaction to the zith? Or the yeast (he has been on Augmentin daily since June). Is there anything else I should be doing right now. Poor baby is so uncomfortable in his skin. Now he can't sleep and keeps asking me when the itching will stop. And did I mention I HATE PANDAS!!!!!! Kari
jewels Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Hi Kari, We see the scratching with an allergic reaction, and also when she has been on abx and the yeast/thrush issue is becoming an issue. If its a reaction then she improves on benadryl. When we have a yeast issue she will get a white coating on her tongue, a red ring around her bottom/ spots on her bottom and becomes quite absent minded and a little confused. (hard to explain the confused bit apart from saying very disorganised) If the benadryl doesn't make much difference then you may need to look down the gut/yeast path. Probiotics are a must on abx, and look into candida treatments. There are natural treatments and prescription ones like Nystatin. Keep us updated on the reactions Is he doing any better on the abx. Do hope its helping him. Jules
thereishope Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 I pretty much second everything that was said. I would ask the same....has he been taking a probiotic? Did the Benadryl help? Also, rule out it's anything non-related to the meds and make sure the skin just isn't overly dry and think if you've addded any new foods or changed anything like the soap or laundry detregent.
zazuk2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Author Report Posted February 26, 2010 Thank you both. The benadryl did work and he finally fell asleep. He does take two probiotics but I think the yeast is still taking over. I have cut out all juice (that does help) and have only allowed sugar that is not the main base of the food such as candy/ice cream. Going to have him tested asap. I really just could not think clearly last night. All my fears took over and I imagined all sorts of horrible things happening. Thanks for being here. best, Kari
