dee45 Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Hello, Anthony has done great the last 3 months on topamax and augmentin--he was put on the augmentin in October on our last visit to Dr. Latimer was on pen-v-k. ove the last few days i Have been noticing tics which are increasing and a vocal tic at times. I am so nervous that he is slipping back, does this mean the antibiotic is not working we don't see Dr. Latimer until March maybe going sooner I just don't know what to do or is the waxing and waning just normal. I know I probably have the answer to this somewhere its just he was doing so well and now I am just scared. i hate this so much, you are in a good place and then wham right back to where you were(well not that bad) you know what I mean. thanks for listening. Deanna
thereishope Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 So, he's on Augmentin right now and has been on that since October? Have you ruled out if anything else can be causing tics to worsen? Such as viruses, allergies, stress, family members being ill. Have you been swimming lately in a pool with chlorine at a hotel? If he continues to worsen, you can still take him in for a strep test. He may get a false negative if he is on abs, but there's also a chance if he has strep, he can get a + on abs.
dee45 Posted February 6, 2010 Author Report Posted February 6, 2010 so if the strept test is positive do i change the antibiotics? Deanna
thereishope Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 I believe those who have had a + strep while on the abx changed the abx or upped the script of what they were on.You could probably get a doctor to change it if that is what you want, like to Zithromax. Maybe someone who has experienced that can chime in. How long have the tics been on the rise after seeing improvement?

We saw increases in tics after our son was in a swimming pool. I got advice from this forum last summer to give him an epson salt bath after swimming and it made a BIG difference.
thereishope Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Here's an old thread about chlorine and tics along with some suggestions. I think you can rub magnesium on prior to swimming? http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?...mp;hl=magnesium

dee45 Posted February 6, 2010 Author Report Posted February 6, 2010 Vickie, he has been probably tic free for at least 3 months. soooo confused. Deanna
thereishope Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 If he's been tic free for 3 months and they are back again, I would contact Dr L and, if it was me, I would also take him for a strep test just to rule it out. I'm paranoid about strep as I'm sure everyone else here is. You said no signs of a virus, allergies, possible sinus infection?
dee45 Posted February 6, 2010 Author Report Posted February 6, 2010 Hi, he has had a on and off again cough but that is it. Do you think he may need a new antibiotic? Deanna
