justinekno Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 From reading various posts, the most recent from "wornoutmom". I am wondering if it makes sense to do the Cunningham/ Cam Kinase test before you do anything else? We are fairly new to this and don't have a true PANDAS diagnosis as yet. From listening to others, it sounds like the Cunningham test somewhat justifies going down the path of getting a PANDAS diagnosis. Any thoughts? Justine
peglem Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 My thought is that you should look for clinical evidence of PANDAS 1st- behaviors and movements associated with strep (or other pathogens?). I don't think the Cunningham test is meaningful w/o the clinical evidence because it has not been established if the Cunningham results are specific to PANDAS or if there are other conditions that may produce the same phenomena. Also, you are more likely to get beginning treatment (abx) based on strep evidence, not likely to happen w/ only Cunningham results.
thereishope Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 If you suspect PANDAS, I would get strep under control, rule out family members with strep, and you can do antibiotics while awaiting results of the Cunningham test. If anyone has strep, you don't need those test results to get a doctor to treat the infection. The only thing I would wait to do is a streroid burst if it would be something you'd consider doing. That might affect Cunningham test results. If you wish to travel to see an expert for diagnosis and treatment, well, then I could understand waiting for the results. But the "basics"...you can do those now.
