sf_mom Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 We will be testing ASO (shows there has been a strep infection) and Anti-DNase-B in both my Husband and I (shows a rise in titers 8 weeks post infection). As for your longer Daughter I would do..... CBC panels, IgG Subclasses and Strep Pneumococcal Antibody Titers. If those are showing anything odd, I would follow that up with ASO, Anti-DNAse-B and Madeleine Cunningham test. -Wendy
ajcire Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Why not just do the aso, anti DNAsse-B at the same times to possibly not have to go back? I would love to do the cunningham test on my supposedly non-pandas daughter... but until it becomes diagnostic and covered by insurance it's not going to happen. FallingApart.. I was told exactly the same thing by my ped about the titers... that elevated titers are really not very alarming to find... that most people have them due to exposure within a year to strep. Iowadawn Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Guys can you explain "get tested" to me? I mentioned this to our ped and she said that getting our family's ASO (I believe that is the one she said) would only tell us if we had been exposed to strep in the past year. Can you explain this to me? I'm sensing that there might be more to this story. Someone with some expertise will probably have to weigh in. I know one titer test ASO/Anti DNase B is only a snapshot. But, I think when there are results as high as ours, as we have been told with our son, you don't get those overnight with one infection. Dr. Cunningham looked at our results I sent her the other day and said "You're a very smart lady" to have insisted on getting the blood tested even with negative throat cultures. Particularly with mine & 15 yo (752/1920 & 756/1920) she commented that " You have an active strep infection." "Strep---It's not just in your throat!" ought to be the slogan! I question if exposure alone is -- in most people-- going to see such an antibody level. This quote from Dr. C is from an email she just sent me regarding our family's titer results I had emailed to her: Dear Dawn, Your results are not surprising to me as strep titers are the final confirmation of recent or recurrent strep infections. I'll take her year's & years of studying strep & immunology over the average doc's. My two cents. Dawn
sf_mom Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Depending on the size of the child, the amount of blood required for testing is above the normal limits. -Wendy Why not just do the aso, anti DNAsse-B at the same times to possibly not have to go back? FallingApart Posted January 19, 2010 Author Report Posted January 19, 2010 I didn't realize that it might need to be more than one poke. If we end up doing IV abx for the non PANDAS DD that is the carrier, it will be over 10 days time, so I would think we would be able to draw from it on multiple days. Our ped said they can leave the IV in for 3 days at a time, so 4 pokes total.
